Well... the Toshiba conference is over and done with by now (?)... did the ground shake? What were the big announcements?

Anyone know?

Here's a PR Release:

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/s...e,172043.shtml

Only interesting bit is 4 of 5 top notebook vendors will offer hd dvd drives. (No mention of names, but I guess that would be HP, Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba with Dell not offering?) Wonder how many will offer Blu Ray drives.

not bad, not bad at all. im actually impressed with their vigor. if they can pull it off and convince the world to turn hd dvd, cheers to them. the football market is a HUGE market to tap. but regardless, i'm sticking with blu til somebody breaks.

Quoting from the release:

"To help future proof your home video collections, HD DVD also exclusively offers combo discs (DVD on one side and HD DVD on the other)."

That's candid of them. They're already looking ahead to the day when the HD-DVD side will no longer be supported.

Too bad no laptop battery will actually last an entire movie for either format, Blu will be offered by all except Toshiba, and HD DVD-R is nowhere in sight in any quantity worth mentioning

now the BDA needs to leverage Disney to promote during big time college football games on ABC every saturday, monday night football on espn and leverage fox for nfl games on sunday. Come on BDA, use your stations you own.

absolutely true. my laptop battery always dies at around the hour and a half mark. plus hd on a laptop is relatively pointless, yeah? my sd dvds look just fine on mine...

I wonder how many of those laptops will also offer bluray as an option too.

Sunday night football is a good grab for them, let's hope the BDA has some good advertising plans as well.

Notice Sunday Night Football is on NBC, aka NBC/Universal. They're leveraging their exclusive companies, like I said above, the BDA needs to do the same.

nice move by hd dvd. tons of football fans have been buying hdtvs over the past couple years.

fox better run some blu ray ads on sundays during games and hopefully disney will put some ads in monday night footballs telecast.

We need some news for cheap holiday season players supporting profile 1.1. I can't imagine they would release Blu-ray discs with the interactive features and a limited amount of players to support them.

I don't think your going to get any "new" news. Frankly Sony and the BDA are still a disappointment. In my view they haven't countered the Paramount/Dreamworks deal at all and have not used their alliances to any great affect. In a sentance, both Sony and the BDA have done little to counter anything the other camp is coming up with. Sure we get loads of new player announcements (without much specifics), but we know the prices are staying at the high range at least for now. We get ACER (big pickup, but still doesn't alter the sting of P/DW), new Fox titles (already expected at some point anyway) and continued neutrality from Warner (at this point this is also big, it seems like we are even satisifed with the crumbs) and that's about it! This thing is simply going to drag on because the BDA is not affective, or at least as affective as they could be.

And it also appears that Pepsi/Mountain Dew will be Dale Jrs. Major sponsers this year. I guess Sony will be a Sponser as well, but not the primary.

My setup lasts 8 hours. HP with the secondary battery.

Now if it only had a BD drive....

Yep. Why does Sony think we need more systems that cost $700, $1300, and $3500 respectively?

Concentrate on the mass market!
