I seem to recall there was a rumored remake for years that had Naomi Watts attached to star. I'm glad it never came to fruition. Hitchcock can't be duplicated.

I'm not necessarily opposed to remakes, but remaking The Birds is like remaking Jaws or ET. How and why would you do that?

Have birds in real life, been know to swarm humans like this and attack? Yes. Just visit any beach where people hold up cheese doodles or snacks.
