Interesting. Mine started off as 9/12-9/14 then quickly switched to 9/20 when it was dispatched on the 3rd.

Anyway, I'm glad you got yours so quickly. Hopefully mine will arrive before the 20th. Cheers!

Well, the 4K player I bought is set up and ready to take my UK set whenever it gets here. Unfortunately, the sound bar I bought isn't working and I can't figure out how to get it to work. I changed the HDMI audio to PCM and looked at all of the settings and the booklet. I'm lost.

In the commentary track, Darren Dochterman says that the new sparkling on the credits (which no one here seemed to like) is the moire effect from Vejur's transformation at the end of the film. Conceptually cool, anyway.

I'm mostly okay with the 7.1 for the theatrical cut we've had since 2009, but there is one oddball bit of business right before and after the wormhole sequence. Scotty's lines over the bridge intercom ("It'll happen again if we don't correct it.") have a distinctive echo applied to them. The SLV and even the new Atmos track for the DE have them sounding more like they did originally.

Of course, I'm mostly going off the old widescreen LD for comparison. I've seen TMP in theaters a few times over the years, but I don't remember specifically what those lines sounded like.
Thanks for this info, was definitely curious how the 2.0 SLV mix was going to sound, even given the lossy encode limitations. What sort of EQing does it seem to sound like? Overall does it sound good? And how does it compare to the WS LD 2.0?

It basically sounds like a lossy version of the LD. Not great, but not bad. The 1983 ABC broadcast probably would have been in mono, so I'm assuming the 2.0 here is taken from the same stereo master that was used for the Longer Version LD.

I'm mostly guessing on all this, including the EQ-ing. Not sure what all they had to do to the dynamic range on those early LDs.

As I also mentioned in the other thread, the original sound mix, like the rest of the movie, was being worked on right up to the last possible minute. There were a lot of things that weren't properly finessed, so it's always been rough in some spots.

Update/Follow up on Bullmoose failing to include STIII with my big preorder.
Here's how they packaged it. The person helping me successfully ensured a slipcase was included. Zero damage. I am a happy customer. I'm a happy and very satisfied customer. The mistake was understandable and they took care of it super fast with zero compromise. If anything I was more of a pain considering the additional packaging/shipping cost and to help make sure it had a slip.

To paraphrase Philip K Dick, we can provide it for you wholesale - 3 days of monsoon-level (for the UK) rain means I've got plenty to share!

I got out in a break in the rain just before 2am and got back 10 minutes before the next deluge.

It was only 90° today.

I just opened my copy and there is NO digital code. Is there any way to contact Paramount to get one? I can't even get a replacement since Amazon is out of stock.

The SLV 2.0 is a bit ‘harder’ than either the old 7.1 or the new Atmos but yeah, it’s pleasant enough to these ears and still sounds quite lively. Encoded at 224 kb/s.

Where is this promo? A B&N near work has the TMP DE 2-Disc set, but I wasn’t going to pay that extra retail price of theirs. Google Shopping was listing a $23 price but I didn’t see any promo option online.

Ugh now I don't know what to do with my unopened copy. I'd maybe seen parts of TMP on TV as a kid but watching the theatrical version last year was my first complete experience of it and I loved it.

Is it even worth trying the director's cut version now with the DNR issues? Or should I just stick with the theatrical cut and the happy memory of my first viewing of that? The score was a main factor of me loving the theatrical so does the Atmos track with the director's cut do justice to that at least?

TMP DE has been removed from the US Paramount+. I don't know if it'll be back. How weird.

The Directors Cut for me is the superior version of the movie especially because of the added character bits for spock which i find important.

I also like that they redone unfinished or wonky effects of the theatrical because that version was so rushed back then.
Also i love the recomposited shots of the original Effects so much. they look way better than they ever had.

The DNR didnt bother me in this version and i watch it projected on big screen.
Its not like other DNR clusterfu...cks.

The score never sounded better than on the new Track. I was completely blown away by the new Soundmix and consider it the best the movie has ever sounded.

I would open it an just watch for yourself.

True. I could have sworn I saw it in the "Leaving P+ on August 31" list last month along with The Godfather and the first Scream movies. I did think it was odd. Oh well, I stand corrected.

Question

Has it been confirmed that the Spacedock scene on the new TC/SLV disc is as filtered as on the 2021 4K UHD of TMP?

Yes, it’s literally that same master but with the SLV scenes added in. You get the bonus of betterer subtitles and a fresher encode on the new TC/SLV disc though.
