Tired of all those reboots of 80s shows and prefer to watch the originals?
In need of something to watch during the summer repeats season?
Fan of moustaches?

All three?
Then you're in luck. ITV4 are running the original Magnum PI starting Monday 25th July in the afternoons with episodes repeated the following morning.

Zeus, Apollo...

It's all about the cars for me.

Magnum and the (borrowed) Ferrari 308 and that theme tune = greatness.

Kojak had a Buick Century that drove like a squashy pillow. Boing

Starsky & Hutch had the worst cop car ever - a bright red Gran Ford Torino (well Starsky did) coz' Hutch drove a Ford Galaxie 500

Jim Rockford - Pontiac Firebird

And many others...

Excellent stuff. Not only did the 80's produce great music, but great TV shows too.

I forgot to set the first episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents to record last week on Sky Arts. Have looked at next Monday's listings, but will have another look now that I've seen your post about the original Magnum, P.I. Cutback. One of the shows I watch in the week is the most recent season of Blue Bloods (also starring 'the Selleck' (aka the famous 'tache).

I don't know if Simon & Simon was ever shown over here, but it's a pity that couldn't get an airing on UK TV, as I bet ITV4 will do what they did the last time they repeated Magnum, P.I. (showing the standalone version of the crossover with Simon & Simon and Murder, She Wrote where the storyline was wrapped up in one episode (the original version with both crossovers being a two-parter).

They're showing two episodes daily.

As from Monday 11 July, two episodes are being broadcast Monday to Friday.

The programme...

Alfred Hitchcock Presents!

And now a word from our sponsors...
Hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday night, I'll watch the first episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, "Revenge" (found it on Sky Catch-Up).

cutback, thanks for bringing it up about Sky Arts doing a repeat run of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (have they repeated the show before, or did another UK channel show it?). I watched "Revenge" last night. To put it mildly, I was impressed (only nitpick, and this is down to my interpretation, is the explanation about what happened to
[Show spoiler]the woman's husband (played by actor Ralph Meeker).
Enjoyed Hitchcock's black humour, especially during the sequence before the end of the episode (including about the sponsor). My favourite was when he said
[Show spoiler]the episode was going to be called "Death of a Salesman".

I wasn't totally sure about the transfer/picture quality. I know a thread was started in TV Shows (called "Alfred Hitchcock Presents HD"). You'd think, if done right, a Blu-ray boxset of the show will eventually happen.

I'm hoping Sky Arts end up doing a repeat run of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (that has had a Complete Series DVD release).

One other thing, I loved the cinematography in "Revenge", and Vera Miles has become one of my favourite TV and film actresses. She's in her early 90's.

Glad you enjoyed it. Not all episodes are that good, plus it's one of only 4 episodes that Mr Hitchcock directed which does help! This is also the only episode featuring Vera Miles. The rather voyeurish camera shot of her legs outside the home was very Hitchcock I thought.

I've not noted previous showings in the UK in recent times, but I dont catch everything of course.

Your nitpick about the explanation of what happened to the husband - these explanations at the end by Hitchcock were written always as deliberately unconvincing, with the intention that the viewer would simply ignore them and go with the real ending which was the end of the filmed story. They were there solely because of the tv code at the time which said that episodes always had to have a happy ending. Technically the code was met this way, even though the real ending isn't a happy one in most cases.

Supposedly the series ended because the man who wrote the monologues died and Hitchcock did not wish to continue without him. You can already see why with the very first episode. Although episodes themselves vary in quality, the monologues rarely do.

cutback, that was a very interesting explanation which has made me change what I initially thought about the Hitchcock monologue before the end of the episode. "Pre-code" I've read about a lot elsewhere on here (especially in the WAC Blu-ray thread).

I'll be checking the listings to see when Sky Arts are going to start on the second season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Going to do what I'm doing with Maverick and Sugarfoot on TCM Movies, and sample an episode each from each of the seasons.

I suspect the end credits were squashed up and spoken over, but I haven't checked today's screening of the first half of the feature-length pilot "Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii" to see if that's what happened. The last few weekends, I've been watching/re-watching an episode of Murder, She Wrote (each Saturday 5USA show several episodes from Saturday morning to early/late Saturday evening). This past Saturday they were towards the end of the tenth season (the penultimate, eleventh season starts next Saturday). I haven't seen every episode of the show, but one episode repeated recently I did remember seeing a long time ago, the guest stars including George Segal (I thought I'd remembered who the murderer was, but it was someone else).

Anyway, the reason I'm replying to your post about the cars driven by various detective/private detective characters. I can't remember the makes of the road vehicles driven by the characters, but in Simon & Simon (they did one crossover, with Magnum, P.I.) they had two road vehicles (a large Mr. Plow-style truck (referring to the Simpsons episode where Homer and Barney have rival snow plough businesses) and a sports car (maroon colour scheme).

You'd think I'd know by now the make of McGarrett's car in the original Hawaii Five-O (currently re-watching the fifth season). I can picture it (a newer model was used in the later seasons, and the car was shown once or twice in the revival series).

I always liked the car in Knight Rider, including the various updates (including what they did in the fourth and final season (but it didn't always get used).

United Kingdom Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Season 3 premiere on Sky Arts

Have been keeping an eye on the Sky Arts TV schedule for next week, and based on the last episode of the second season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents being repeated on the channel next Wednesday afternoon/evening, hopefully they'll go straight into the third season a week tomorrow (Thursday 25th August).

An update: have checked the Sky Arts listings for next Thursday, and sadly (for the time being, unless the channel are not going to show the remainder of the series) the repeat run of Alfred Hitchcock Presents isn't going into Season 3.

Tomorrow night at 21.00 a new doc, I've never seen it advertised anyway, called...

Audrey: More Than an Icon

1 hour 50m before ads are excised from it.

Thursday midnight has a repeat of... The Fantastic Mr Murray.

Sky Arts for both.

United Kingdom Changes to the TV schedules

Compiling this together in one post, rather than posting it in the various threads, as it saves confusion when the schedules on some UK TV channels for the time being are subject to change:

- Last Friday night's shorter version of Have I Got News for You, along with the extended edition (which would normally air on the same channel (BBC One) on a Monday night) may not have been filmed, due to a news story.

- I wouldn't be surprised if the first edition of Mock the Week's new series isn't filmed this week. Removed from the schedules.

- last Friday's new edition of The Film Review wasn't shown. Have checked Sky's Catch-up section and nothing on there. It's usually filmed on a Tuesday and first airs on Friday late afternoon/early evening on the BBC News channel.

- the penultimate edition of the current, ninth series of documentary series Ambulance has been postponed until this coming Wednesday night on BBC One, following the late, local news bulletin. This new edition has been postponed until a later date.

- new true crime documentary Police, Camera, Murder was originally due to air on ITV last Thursday night. Then it was removed from the schedules, and postponed until tonight after the late news. It's been removed from the schedules until (I assume) a later date.

- Last Friday evening/night's new edition of Question of Sport has been postponed until tomorrow night after the late, local news bulletin on BBC One. This new edition has been postponed until a later date.

- Question marks about the start of this year's series of The Great British Bake Off and the launch show of this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing (the former is due to air tomorrow night on Channel 4, and the latter is due to air next Saturday evening/night on BBC One). Strictly's launch show has been postponed to a week on Friday (23rd September).

- last Saturday's new edition of Celebrity Pointless and new episode of Casualty were both moved to BBC Two.

- the football programme this past weekend, including the start of the Women's Super League were affected as well by the news story (The Women's Football Show and I assume Match of the Day and it's spin-off didn't air because of the games being called off).

There are likely other programmes I've not mentioned above. Any updates will be in bold.

Noticed earlier when checking the ITV4 listings for next Wednesday daytime into early evening, that this repeat run of Magnum, P.I. moves into the third season next Monday (the feature-length season premiere "Did You See the Sunrise?" is being shown in two parts, over next Monday and Tuesday, with the standalone version of the Simon & Simon crossover "Ki'i's Don't Lie" airing next Wednesday).

A new five-part drama series whose cast includes Stephen Graham, called The Walk-In, starts on ITV next Monday night (3rd October) at 9 pm - 10 pm. Based on the new issue of TV & Satellite Week magazine, all episodes will be available on the ITV Hub on or after next Monday.

Some new drama series which air on ITV air over consecutive nights, but The Walk-In is one of the examples where it looks to be airing over a few weeks instead.
