Default Acronyms / Abbreviations

Does anyone know if there's forum/link that explains all the physical media acronyms/abbreviations - such as OOP = out of print. Thank you!

Not that I am aware of; many of the abbreviations tossed around here are just shorthand for movies with long titles like OUATIH is Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

A quick google search will often explain abbreviations that are technical terms like MaxCLL (Maximum Content Light Level) and MaxFALL (Maximum Frame Average Light Level). Or just ask someone in the thread where you encounter them.

I tried searching web, no luck. I had a print out awhile ago, can't find it. Needing for OC Box Sets / Specialty FS, SL, DL special/limited editions I own.

Thanks for reply!

I loved it. Watched it in 4K/DV / Atmos on P+.

I will definitely be getting the 4K disc. I saw today that they have started filming season 2, so I assume we'll have it in 2023 at some point.

If this sells well I hope Paramount releases The Offer on 4K disc, as well.

As I already told you, my blind buying this digitally at a bargain price allowed me to try it at little risk and to share it with my family and friends. Because I liked this movie I will buy it on disc; I'm just going to wait a bit to see if it gets a 4K disc release before doing so.

Had I used cable TV pay per view to try this movie first, you would not have given me any grief at all. It just bugs you if anyone besides yourself uses digital content.
I’m so pleased you are back to your feisty replies!

In a case like this I buy the Blu.

If they do release the UHD BD that's a win.

If they don't release the UHD BD then I have the Blu.

I like a lot of what Pablo is in. Debating on the Steelbook or 4K at the moment.

We are in the try before you buy group. Our viewing is several thousand titles but our purchase to date is 745 BD/UHD BD titles . That number is not related to finances but directly to PFRV (potential for repeat viewing). Watched a lot of really good movies and TV but most had a PFRV = 0. Watching 1883, House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power, have not decided on purchase these. Just finished Black Phone, liked it but PFRV = 0.

Recent purchases include Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, The Northman, Memory and others because they have PFRV ≥ 1.

I was only having him on, but I do blind buy every time. Very decent track record of keepers as well. I would say I end up keeping at least 90% of my purchases.

I blind buy a lot of my movies on disc IF I am fairly confident that I will like the movie being considered. If I am unsure about a movie, but still curious, I will find a way to see it before I commit to a disc purchase. Sometimes, albeit rarely, even a good movie or TV show has no replay value for me.

You have to remember that I do not think of my occasional digital expenditures as actual purchases like I would with a disc. I see all of my digital acquisitions as long term rentals. I only ever pay sale or bargain basement prices for digital titles whereas I will often pay release day prices for a title on disc.

Digital is just how I "rent" a movie now. It replaces the all but extinct brick and mortar rental store and the pay per view cable TV option. Likewise, I see subscription streaming as my replacement for all forms of pay TV service. Neither of these have any chance of ever supplanting my disc library as my far and away preferred choice.

I watched it. I thought it was good, not great. There are some side stories that are unnecessary and feel like padding, but everything with Master Chief and the Spartans was well worth watching. If you've played the games you'll enjoy a lot of the nods to them. Not sure I'll buy it yet though. May wait to see how the second season fares.

This is one area where I agree with Wendell, if I'm going to add it to My Collection it has to pass the viewing at least twice for me. Then it depends on the price, $10 is almost a given and $20-25 has to be a must have...$30 and above is too Much!

Memory? Liam has been more miss than hit for me lately. I haven’t seen it, so am a bit surprised it was good.

$30 is nothing to spend for a movie that you love. I have spent 10 times that.

I haven't spent $300 on a movie since the days of Japanese laserdisc box sets.

I don't do it often and I paid such prices during the laserdisc era, too, when spending $300 back then was equivalent to spending $615 today.

Buying OOP titles can get that expensive and buying them might be more aptly called Oops! titles because when you pay their price you know what a mistake it was to let the title go out of print before buying it.

Not me....$300 on a Movie is way too much, you guys are out of control $500K closing on a $Mill+ just doesn't cut it. I always found ways to make my money back, backing up the Movie and selling the original. Now I can't do that so I have to find Deals and Sales!

$300 for a movie is by FAR the exception and not the rule.

If all of my DVDs and blu-rays averaged $20 each my entire collection would have cost me $164,540 over a period of 25 years since the inception of the DVD.

Add in my laserdiscs (1200 titles at the height of my collection) at an average cost of $50 each and there's another $60,000. That tallies up to $224,540 spent on movies and TV shows over a period of 33 years.

Now none of that is adjusted for inflation, but even if you double that figure I'm still well under $500K. I may be about this hobby, but I ain't even close to $1M worth of being nucking futs.
