Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Khan is my favorite of the six. Voyage used to be my second favorite. But as these three form are one long story, the subsequent movies have to place second and third in this order for me now.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Especially after watching the bonus material included with the 2022 release (it's the costume tests that reveals more cogent info), I’m even more fascinated by the fact that both the original series and the original crew film series started with a “cerebral” pilot (The Cage/TMP) followed by a more robust follow up (Where No Man Has Gone Before/TWOK) before achieving success. I've gotten over any issues I had watching it back in '79 and genuinely appreciate it more now.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
I prefer certain moments in V, mainly of the Big 3, that have me popping in the movie every now and then to rewatch. As a story, I also concede it ain't Hamlet.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
No apologies here, but I stubbornly can’t get past things that pull me out that I consider cheesy (Yes, I realize I used that word here and not with Shatner’s film. LOL), the Shakespeare-in-Klingon reference, Scott reviewing printed paper schematics over using a PADD (and the Admiral Cartwright's use of paper in the extended cut). Even the viridium patch is too on-the-nose for my liking. I also think Eidelman’s score affects my opinion; there aren’t many light moments in it as compared to the previous five. I accept that my opinion is in the minority.

Don't forget having to haul a bunch of ancient tomes to the bridge in order to translate Klingon.

Edit: Also, Scott has been chief engineer on the ship for years and he's apparently reviewing schematics that basically point to where the ship's engines are.

I rewatched The Wrath of Khan last night, which I think of as flawless, but one thing struck me as weird that happens after the attack on the Enterprise. Why does Scotty show up on the bridge carrying his badly injured nephew in his arms instead of going right to sickbay? What was the point of showing everyone on the bridge first?

I would pay extra to see Scotty hauling Preston up the jeffries tube with the lifts out of service. "Must.. show... the Captain -- this is how I define unwarrented!"

The novelization fleshes that out a bit with him looking for McCoy.

An aside on the film novels - Vonda McIntyre had a serious Sulu fetish.

Spock at the end of of ST 5 -- "This (Sybok's death) is how I define unwarranted!"
Kirk -- "Be logical..."

Carol after ST 3 -- "This (David's death)is how I define unwarranted!"
Kirk -- "But Carol..."

Cap. Esteban's dad after ST 3-- "This is how I define unwarranted!"
Kirk -- "I had nothing..."

Burke and Samno's moms after ST 6 -- "This is how we define unwarranted!"
Kirk -- "Give me a break..."

Does anyone know if all three discs in the three-disc release of the UK standard set (not the SLV "Complete" Set) are Region Free?

The 2K Discs appear as "Untested" for Regions A and C here on this site for that release.

Thanks in advance to anyone that knows the answer.

My replacement copy just arrived from DeepDiscount and I’ve come to the same conclusion as others - it’s virtually impossible to have a damage free copy of this due to how flimsy the cardboard is. It was packaged in a sturdy cardboard mailer that arrived in decent shape and was *still* creased from weight on the box although it was much better than the Amazon copy and acceptable under the circumstances.

I have watched this movie so many times checking discs recently (had to replace a defective disc in the four movie box too) I should be sick if it but somehow am not.

Thanks - I almost ordered it last night, and if I had done it then it would have arrived a week or more earlier. Now I have to wait until the end of the month instead, which stinks.

I hope the copy I get is in good shape.

I rank em:

Wrath of Khan: A+
The Motion Picture: A
Da Search for Spock: A-
The Voyage Home: B
The Final Frontier: B
The Undiscovered Country: B-

But let’s face it, anything with the original actors is great

In other breaking news, I have come to my senses and cancelled my "back-up" order of a 2nd copy of The Complete Adventure Director's Edition set from Amazon (actually I placed that order before I decided to give Bull Moose a try). I figure the odds of getting a Royal Fizzbin are better than trying to get an intact, pristine copy from Amazon.

I am reminded again of the wisdom of Mr. Spock-- "After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true."

Mine arrived today with the usual spine damage everyone else reported. The flimsy cardboard mailer is definitely to blame. It might have had a chance if it was in an actual sturdy shipping carton. I straightened it out as best as I could and I'm going to keep it. The exchange process would be a whole new nightmare.

Just make sure the set isn't delivered at night.

For some reason the standard 4k is sold out almost everywhere. I ordered on release day from Wal-mart and it was just cancelled today. Best Buy- Sold out. Target doesn't even list it anymore, nor does Deep Discount. Still gotta check a few places. What gives, Paramount?

Got impatient with my Amazon pre-order of the standard 4K so I ordered this on Zavvi US. Hopefully they actually have this in stock as they're the only online retailer where you can currently place an order.

Interesting to see V: The Final Frontier higher than VI: The Undiscovered Country in some rankings. At the time, The Final Frontier was considered the worst of the Trek movies and a cinematic abomination (Trek or not), and VI was called a return to form with Meyer rescuing the franchise once again while sending the original cast off in style.

Funny how that sort of thing changes. Is it like now where younger generations genuinely like the Star Wars prequels while those over 40 remember them as pretty abysmal? Lol.

When did you place the order with Amazon, and what was their projected delivery date? I'm curious, because you can't even get to the TMP Page for that set using their app.
