I absolutely love this movie

I'm really hoping it'll get the high-def treatment soon.

Just look at my avatar and it's obvious how much I love this movie.
Really brings me back to the 80s and it's just an awesome movie.

This was a great movie. I'm 29 and any man my age saw this movie in grade school and loved it. If it came out on Blu-ray I would buy it that day!!!

I'm actually an active poster on he-man.org (which is easily the web forum where I spend most of my message-boarding-time), and I am actually a member of a He-Man fan club here in IL called 'The Chicago Horde'.

I'm also (like a true geek) collecting the recently launched collectible action figure line called "Masters of the Universe Classics".

So, would I buy this movie on Blu-Ray? Yes, I definitely would.

However, as a He-Man fan (and I currently have all of the DVDs of all of the various He-Man series, as well as this movie), I will say that while I would buy this movie, I would much prefer that the 2002-2004 animated series get released on Blu-Ray.

It was actually made in 16:9 (on TV it aired 4:3 with the sides cut off, but the DVDs are 16:9), and from what I've heard, it looks great in Hi-Def. However, the chances of this coming out on Blu anytime soon, which previously seemed likely, were recently cut short.

BCI, the company that put out all of the animated DVDs, recently closed down due to the economy, with the rights to everything it has falling under some parent company called Navarre. In fact, one of the people who worked at BCI and on these releases has been an active poster on he-man.org under the name "BCI_Guy". And we unfortunately learned recently that he got laid off because of BCI closing shop.

This is very sad for him, and it's also very sad for fans because for some time there had been talk of the 2002 series coming out on DVD. And BCI Guy, who had access to and had actually seen the Hi-Def masters in action, had actually posted how excellent the series looked in Hi-Def. But, with the recent closing of shop of BCI, and from what I've heard about how this Navarre company handles things, I'm not holding my breath on this Blu-Ray release happening anytime soon.

But none the less, given the option, I would much rather have the 2002 series on Blu-Ray than the 1987 movie, which for me is actually something of a low point in the overall He-Man franchise (along with the late 80s/early 90s series called "The New Adventures of He-Man). However, having said that, there are still aspects of the movie that I enjoy. I would definitely pick it up on Blu-Ray, and in a perfect world we would get both this movie and the 2002 series on BD.
That's very sad, i really liked the 2002 animated series and would love to get it on blu-ray.

I don't love everything about the MOTU movie but I do love the final battle between Skeletor and He-Man. Epic!

would like to see this on blu ray, except of that part where there is the infection on courtney cox's leg, yuck

i remember being so excited by the very end and skeletor popping up from the whatever it was and saying i'll be back, was always waiting for the sequel

i thought some of the new characters added were cool, blade was good, zerod was cool, that karg guy was pretty much awful and all of skeletors shiny metal soldiers were pretty bad

Haha I remember I was the only one in the theater left when he did that - and for years I would never leave a movie until the credits rolled because I was hoping for another "extra" like Skeletor.

It's too bad he didn't keep his promise!

Day one on Blu, if and when it comes out. I remember being shocked when I found the DVD at Walmart one day - but I do see the DVD in stores quite often now, must sell some.

I'd get this film. I was a huge fan of the animated series and the 80's film when I was a child. And, interestingly enough, I recently downloaded the Bill Conti score for this film and have been really diggin' it. Sure, it's a rip-off of John Williams Star Wars and Superman scores, but it's good ol' nostalgic fun.

Also, I don't own Masters on DVD currently, and I ditched my VHS copy long ago. So, I would definitely get this on Blu.

A lot of people are asking about who owns the rights to the movie, so I looked into it. The worldwide theatrical and home-video rights (as well as international TV rights) to the majority of Cannon's library are owned by MGM. The theatrical and home video rights to most Cannon films made after 1987 are now with Warner Bros., including Masters of the Universe. WB put out the DVD for MotU and they will eventually put out the blu-ray. Anyone who wants this movie on blu-ray better start hoping that the remake comes to fruition.

Paramount owns the rights to distribute the Cannon library (except Lifeforce) on digital platforms. Obviously, that is the reason that their logo is on the PS3 download.

Showtime has been playing Masters of the Universe in HD recently and I recorded it to my DVR. It looks great!

This movie obviously has its faults, but you couldn't ask for better villains. Frank Langella and Meg Foster are marvelous in this film!

MGM owns the theatrical and home-video rights, while the television rights belong to Sony Pictures Television. The digital distribution is where it gets tricky. MGM and Sony seem to have some sort of co-distributorship.
