I also used some user settings from cnet and a few other sites to set my tv's picture settings which helped alot

not sure on that player, but it should be in the Audio Settings menu for the player, to give you the choice of LPCM or Bitstream

I understand the settings now for my bluray player, but I do not know which settings to use on my Onkyo, I have a ton of options for listening modes on the receiver.

Usually something like 'direct' is the best. It will take what comes in and output it with out processing (other than standard calibration mods). You don't really want to use anything like virtual, or phantom 6.1/7.1.
