Thank Lilith I saw Evangelion subbed first. I tried watch both dubs of the show and thought both were crap.

My condolences to anyone who associate the characters with either of those......."voices".

I was thinking the same thing. It's even worse than the bland designs of the Collector's Edition.

Condolences not needed. I'm very happy with my preferred version. Everyone's got their own tastes and preferences. I don't particularly care for Netflix's redub, but power to anyone that enjoys that dub. Also, some of us do watch more than one version.

I think people are too hung up on what was "first" is "the right way". Creators make mistakes (bad dialogue, plot holes, etc). Maybe a dub better gets the emotions across.

Then there's the dilemma of works set outside Japan, featuring characters who are not Japanese and have no storyline reason to be speaking Japanese.

OMW he was being nice, no need to take it personally and get your panties in a bunch over that. This is exactly what I'm talking about when I say the debate died years ago and a certain crowd brought it back, and it wasn't the "subbers." There was that time someone on this forum compared insulting dub watchers to "LGBT oppression" and that's when I knew all bets were off and we'd entered the twilight zone.

For the record, cuz I know people are more into getting owns these days and not thinking about what anyone says, I don't care how you watch anything.
Do what you want. My favorite way to watch FLCL is the English dub because it's literally a perfect labor of love between all parties. I haven't seen one in years like that. Questionable translation and direction and the same pool of voice actors hired over and over got old to me fast!

I really don't like the ADV dub. It has that cheesy 90s dub feel and not in a good way at all. I prefer the Netflix dub but I also see why people might not care for it.

I go subbed for Evangelion but I admit it gets pretty awful when in the Rebuild movies you have characters trying to speak full sentences in English. I could not for the life of me understand what Kaji was saying at the beginning of 2.22 if there weren't subtitles.

Even with the subs I believe they mistranslated his last line in the Funi subs/dub lol

He actually says (or attempts to say anyway) "Gotta run!" Rather than the more commonly assumed "Good luck!" Which wouldn't make much sense as there's not even an attempt at a K sound on the end, which a Japanese speaker wouldn't struggle with at all.

I grew up with the ADV dub voices so those are the voices of the characters to me, and that's what I want to watch! Back in the dark ages of VHS that was what I could get so that was what I got.

I also find the Netflix dub, that I have watched twice, to frequently sound very stilted and awkward, they went overboard in the quest for 'accuracy' imho.

Sounds good. It wouldn't be an EVA Rebuild BD without another "1' added to the title!
And pre-ordered the big one too, since I hate myself.

Really hope we get an English friendly 4K somewhere. Since we know that the JPN one won't be.

Whatever it is, I hope that it'll be included in the international BD release. I'd rather not see a repeat of the "Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo" situation for the 3.33 BD in which it's only available in Japan without English-friendly options.

Even if none of the distributors in the three major English-speaking territories (US/UK/AU) put out a 4K disc, there's always the chance that NeoFilms (HK) might.

Well, I need to get a drive that reads UHD discs and a player that does 4K files before March.

I'm hoping we get all 4 films in 4K in one set. I haven't kept up with the rights. Last I heard, Funi's rights to the first three (or at least the first one) had expired. Is that correct? Would it be reasonable to expect that a new deal with GKids gets made and they release the complete set?

The first movie has been OOP for a while. 2 and 3 are still in stock on Amazon. RS lists 2.22 as no longer available.

My (completely uninformed) guess is that GKIDS will likely get the opportunity to license the first three Rebuild films as a bundle at some point, but only after all of Funimation's rights expire.
