No one is attacking you. We're just tired of you repeating the same false information you have been called out on for years now. Either you are purposefully trying to cause trouble or you are allergic to facts and have comprehension issues. If there is some condition we should be aware of then that's cool and I sympathize. If not you are being wilfully obstinate, make claims you know are false and then ghost the thread when people ask you to provide evidence. Lee took care of that for you this time. If I came in this thread a few times a week saying the sky was purple, offered no evidence of my claims and ignored people when they told me I was wrong, only to pop up a day or so later talking about that purple sky again then I would expect people to respond appropriately. |

I have question for you, how much are you willing to pay for continued access to cloud movies? If you read the TOS/EULA for them you will see the providers could charge for continued access. If not in the TOS/EULA does not mean much because they can always change the agreements. |

Ender this Thread is about Physical vs Digital, and it seems I'm the only one left Supporting Digital. Yes many do both but Digital is always "Good Enough." When I say IMO Digital is more than that you guys tear it apart, so of course I have to defend it. The Source I like to use is the Sales Report from Media Play News. The Average Disc Cost tells me what you guys are spending on Discs. All you guys should be looking at it to see if your spending is below or above this Average Disc Cost. The BD Cost is for both BD and 4K's. You guys love to Boast about your 4K Buys, you should also put in your Average Disc Cost to see if you are Supporting Disc or not.
As for your Vizio, it is a good UHD TV but it's for the Budget minded. It is not considered a High End Brand! |

Why would I need to calculate if my disc spending is above or below the average disc cost? It is irrelevant. Buying movies is not simply a financial transaction for me, nor would I think for anyone who truly loves film. The studios, major and boutique alike, are obviously making enough money on physical media sales to continue releasing an abundance of titles. That is all I care about. I don't worry about physical media going away in my lifetime because I don't foresee that happening. |

We got this. The thread title is Physical & Digital EST: The Future of Home Video Discussion Thread You are enthusiastic about the "digital" side but it's Physical & Digital not Physical vs Digital. There is no format war now we have options. A physical media release often comes with a digital copy. It's easy to enjoy both. The highest quality home video media currently available is UHD BD which doesn't interest you. You should give it another try though, it's fun. Last edited by bhampton; 10-12-2022 at 02:24 PM. |

Not true, you have to pay a ISP every month for access. The last time I did a breakdown of my $80 a month ISP bill about $60 of that $80 went to streaming. If my cell service should ever move to the 900 MHz band then I could get by without a ISP by using my phone as a hotspot.
Disc collectors here have explained numerous times the reasons they buy disc, why do you keep asking for repeat answers? I don't remember a single post where “I collect disc because they are cheap”. |

The simple explanation, you are most likely watching with your display in SOE mode so you don't what others see. Till you learn or pay someone to change your display then your viewpoint will never change. Do I need to link the Vincent Teoh video for the 3rd time?

Well, my disc collection was tiny before local rental places when out of business. I still have one of my less than a dollar movies from Hollywood Video clearance sale. ![]() Taking a friend to see Smile for $19 at my local theater or picking up the UHD BD for under $30 ..... Neither one seems particularly expensive to me these days. In my opinion it's still cheap. EDIT - This arrived from GRUV ![]() That's 3 UHD BD, 3 Blu Rays, and 3 Digital 4K copies and it was $18.39 shipped. .... I think it's still cheap. Last edited by bhampton; 10-12-2022 at 03:12 PM. |

Had $20 credit over at the CC shop and used it to get Lost Highway 4K, Blow Out 4K, and Exotica BD. The sale ends in like 10 minutes and I also qualified and received the $50 Criterion loyalty GC for future purchases.

library , rental, physical, digital in terms of cost. The used market simply makes physical media extremely cheap to the point where its even cheaper then digital collecting. I bought a blu ray of pollyanna from a pawn shop a couple of months ago for 4 dollars including the dmi points that brings it down to closer to 2.5 dollars. If i decide to sell it I could probably sell it for around 20 dollars pretty easily making my net cost for the item negative 17.5 dollars. |

I have been going to Amazon directly and clicking on deals and choosing movies and TV shows which gets you to the lower prices. I have picked up a few titles this round with the Indiana Jones 4K set, Bram Stokers Dracula 4K, and the latest Jurassic World 4K.

Realized that even after I set up the Z9X streamer tomorrow, I'll have to spend another half a grand or so for Dolby Vision MKVs, because my four year old Onkyo motherboard starts humming after playing video for a while, which is why I like having the PC video (HDMI) go to the TV and the PC audio (HDMI) go to the receiver with a fake second desktop display. It only hums when I feed it high res video.
Thinking the Denon AVR-S760H. Close enough now to Black Friday/Cyber Monday that I can just wait. Read on the Sony support site/forum that their TVs can only pass uncompressed audio through, not pass it to the other device from apps on its own operating system. So I spent a while trying to set that up as a test, plugging my 4K disc player into HDMI 1, still failing to have it pass through to HDMI 3 (ARC) without becoming a stereo PCM signal, until I remembered that only HDMI 3 has Dolby Vision. So that wouldn't work for what I'm trying to set up anyway. It's all so irritating. All these unexpected expenses. If only the designers of these streaming boxes saw the importance of having two HDMI outputs. I'm sure plenty of people have issues with passthrough. I did see one device like that, the Dune HD Pro, but it was extra expensive because it also had a hard drive tray. What kind of cinephile serious about watching ripped movies would limit their self to one hard drive anyway? Well, I say "if only," but it's really on Dolby for their royalties/licenses for Dolby Vision and Microsoft for not wanting to pay them. Wish I could just play DV from a PC media player or buy a (working) DV extension from the Windows Store. Last edited by Warm Gun; 10-13-2022 at 05:38 AM. |
