Default Breaking the Region Code

Dear Friends,

I have a PS3 I bought from Dubai and sony bdps 350 which also I bought from there, taking into consideration that all dvd players earlier could be region unlocked then why cant blu ray players be un locked.I mean all you have to do is punch some buttons on the remote and the region code is un locked.

How is that no one around the world has learnt the Art to un lock Sony PS3 or any of the dvd players to make them region free for blu ray and normal dvds or either of the two.

Looking forward to some positive answers from you tech maniacs.

Thanks

Suraj

As far as I know, part of blu-ray specifications set by the blu-ray forum say region free players are not allowed, and those making players could lose their privelages to make players if they allowed it... this is not fact only what I've heard...

I would also add that most DVD players sold in the United States cannot be region unlocked with a hidden code. A few models of BD players sold in Europe can be region unlocked by hardware modification that frequently cost as much as the cost of the BD player itself. The only BD player I have heard of that is available from the factory that is or can easily be region unlocked is the Momitsu BDP-899 (but it does appear to violate the BD patent license agreement). The Momitsu discussion thread is HERE.

I have to disagree with that. If the hardware modifications cost you 69 or 89 Euro (about $100-125), they do not cost as much as the BD-player itself, see: www.bluraymods.com/ourproducts.asp

Bear in mind that if you live in the U.S. and don't have a PAL-capable display (most of us don't), these modded European players do not convert PAL to NTSC. Therefore, PAL extras would not be able to be played, if that's an issue. The Momitsu and Oppo do the conversion, as do some of the older LG players (discontinued).
