Received my Steelbook yesterday but didn't have time to pop it in until today....and that's when I found that the Steelbook is completely split into 2 halves. It looked fine in the shrink wrap but upon opening it, I was literally holding the two separate halves in each hand. Reached out to BB and they said that they could replace it if they showed inventory back in stock but right now it says "Coming Soon", so there's not much they can do. They recommended exchanging it at a local store come Monday if possible. I might try and buy a new copy and just return this one so that I don't have to take off work or anything to secure a Steelbook copy. Was so upset by this situation that I didn't even bother to watch the movie.

Black Friday is less than a month away; both Top Gun flicks on 4K Blu should be more affordable by then. See below ... Quote:

Spun this last night and holy crap this is a reference disc. Don’t have an Atmos setup so went with the 640 5.1 DD track and it still had excellent dynamics and power. Might be the best looking 4K disc I own, in terms of razor-sharp clarity.

This is a nice boost over the iTunes stream version I purchased a few months ago. The streaming version had 12 db dialnorm applied to it's Atmos Dolby Digital + track so I fully expected the TrueHD Atmos to be fuller sounding at normal volume levels and it certainly delivers there.
I'm even more impressed with the PQ compared to the iTunes stream. I've been finding more and more that iTunes streams look decently close to their eventual disc counterparts but for this one there is a lot more clarity and consistency to the image with the disc version. Very happy with how this disc turned out! |

Also some Paramount movies on iTunes is 15 Mbps as opposed to 25 Mbps which could bring in some problems. Today I watched Lost City on physical and immediately compared with iTunes. Picture quality wise both were close but the sound was better on the disc. Not that the stream sounded bad but it lacked a bit of dynamic range |

Besides Bravia Core, iTunes and especially MoviesAnywhere 4K streams are of higher quality (24-32 Mbps). Prime used to be bad but few months ago they upped 4K bit rates from 10 Mbps to 15-18 Mbps. Still far off from disc but the digital productions don't need demanding bit rates and even sitting from my 77 OLED from 8-9 ft, it can be challenging to tell which is what on a blind test and with most streaming having Dolby Vision it can still look better from a HDR perspective over HDR10 on disc. A die hard physical friend of mine gets easily tricked whenever we sit down for a blind test and compare ! Last edited by lgans316; 10-30-2022 at 10:48 PM. |

I'm watching Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix and Jesus F. Christ, the second episode - Vincenzo Natali's Graveyard Rats - has pretty thick grain (more than probably added in post) and it looks pretty bad. Look at the scene @9:34 - yuck! |

I am talking about MoviesAnywhere and iTunes. Very grain heavy content can look bad but again we are talking about a small percentile. I watched Lost Boys 4K Dolby Vision on MoviesAnywhere and it mostly looked similar to the disc in terms of details with DV HDR looking better. Very few scenes looked a tad poor but again I am okay to make some compromises at times. There is no night and day difference as many are imagining. Whenever I invite folks to my place for a.blind test they politely refuse as deep in their heart they know they can get it wrong and don't want to embarrass themselves like the one friend who lives near my place lol. Tech is advancing fast and advancements to also applies to Soundbars which have come a long way. |

However, it came to me with some smudges and smears on the disc, making it glitchy the first time in the menu. Trying to get it on my computer also wasn't happening at the time either (I haven't tried that again). Wiping it off with a microfiber cloth got it to play on my Panasonic with no problem. |
