Default Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration

Coming to PlayStation/Xbox/Switch/Atari VCS/PC this holiday ($40, Digital Eclipse, includes over 90 games).

They show Airworld at the 44 second mark, which is the 4th Swordquest game that was never released. I'm super excited for this collection.

I suspect all of those are gummed up with licensing issues or something. They usually don't appear in any of these Atari collections.

I really wish one of these would include Bezerk.

Activision, Namco, Konami, and Taito. Sad to say.

I’m really hoping if the MS/Activision goes through that the classic games are removed from lockup.

All my most fond memories are tied up with endless hours/days with Pitfall, PAC Man, Asteroids and Frogger. Atari just isn’t Atari without them. And YES I played Tank and Defender and Yars Revenge etc but it’s those few big games made the platform for a reason. I was pumped to buy this but it’s a hard pass.

Born in 1974 so I rode the birth of gaming. Stepped away around the arrival of the X Box and Play Station. I guess like modern music I just faded away from the need. It’s too complicated to just get started with a game these days. Over all these years though I never knew there was a difference between Atari and the games. I know the brand Activison etc but just never thought about the separation I guess.

Atari without those games just makes me sad. Missed opportunity for any of those companies if they didn’t get on board rights wise for this celebration.

I started out with NES, when it was the hottest thing on the market, when I was around 5. I'm 40 now. Did play a little 2600 and arcade games before then. I considered myself a hardcore gamer. Always got Gamepro, EGM, etc magazines too. Engaged in the great Nintendo VS Sega debate at school and around friends. I was pro Nintendo then. SNES was definitely better. I think around when PS3/Xbox 360 came around, I started to be less and less hardcore. Didnt get a PS4 until the slim version game out. Just got a XBone mainly for BC and a couple exclusives. Switch is cool, but virtually worthless now, other than Nintendo's games.

Now I have no desire to even buy a Sony or Microsoft console again. VR and now Steam Deck have started to resurrect my love for gaming again, although it will never be the level it once was. Not sure if I'm getting older or of things are getting lamer. All the updates, half baked games, lack of owning things you buy, and the same crap over and over again, has turned me off. I mostly play indie games now. Only place where difference and originally exists now. Hell I got 1,000s of games I have yet to play. Thanks to Steam Deck and places like Humble Bundle and Fanatical.

Kind of crazy going from the days where I'd only had a few games to play over and over, to having more than I'll ever have time to play in 20 lifetimes, because of how dirt cheap I can get games now. Like old school game renting prices, but getting to keep it instead of taking it back.

This is weird considering all the old/retro/remakes/compilations that are coming out on Switch. That's primarily what I use mine for and couldn't be happier with it.

Well thats pretty much all on everything else too. I just mainly meant the only reason to own it over everything else is for the Nintendo games, or other exclusives I guess.

I got a Switch recently in the hope to reinvigorate my old gaming bones. I was staring down the barrel of five weeks travelling for work in endless hotels and I thought it would be great to pass a lot of time.

I kicked off okay getting into Zelda and Metroid but I dunno…. Maybe I need to just stick with it a bit more.

Got my first copy from BB. Slip was adhered to the steelbook. Couldn't remove without ripping it off so I left it alone. Day 1 there were at least two reviews on Amazon stating the same thing. Figured I'd get one there and see if I got lucky (since I didn't damage the first one) and pull a switcharoo if the second one came and was easily removed. Just got it today, started working it and it ****ing ripped. Now I have that one set up for a replacement. This is ridiculous.
