Disney makes a lot of money, but they also have a lot of costs too with employees, insurance, maintenance of their parks, etc.

As far as them acquiring major entertainment companies, that's something that's happening with the video game industry too, where once big development corporations are being absorbed by Sony and Microsoft. Not good. Sometimes these extra arms are dissolved completely.
All of the entertainment silo's are in flux. There is more content than people have time and money. I think this will be a major discussion for 2023, do companies merge or take bail outs. Neither option serves the consumer.

Do they though? Doesn't China only give back a small percent? So really it's only just for that billion dollar bragging rights.

So, if we are going to ride Amazon for various issues or complain about <insert big company here> then its fair to also include Disney. Whats fair is fair.

mwynn is correct here. Its overload right now. Way too much stuff. We just decided to NOT renew Amazon Prime, for example. I rarely used their streaming and shipping is still free with $25 dollar orders. I dont need everything in two days or next day. A week is fine.

But this is due to the larger problem of too much content and not enough time and/or money to subscribe to like 5-6 services. Screw that. Remember, a lot of dumped cable due to the $70 dollar a month bill. Now, we replaced it with.... well.... a bunch of smaller bills that add up to that much.

Hell yes - every company on Earth needs that dirt-cheap, unregulated labor. Its sad, really. There are human beings at the other end of this who dont make out so well.

Kareem Daniel to Exit Disney as Bob Iger Unwinds Chapek Era Structure

Returning CEO Bob Iger had been widely expected to reshape Disney's streaming division.

“I’ve asked Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, Jimmy Pitaro, and Christine McCarthy to work together on the design of a new structure that puts more decision-making back in the hands of our creative teams and rationalizes costs, and this will necessitate a reorganization of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution. As a result, Kareem Daniel will be leaving the company, and I hope you will all join me in thanking him for his many years of service to Disney,” Iger wrote in a note to employees Monday.

The optics still look good, even if they mean little. And they need all the help they can get with the way their films have been underperforming, though I wonder how much of that is to do with the 45 day window making people less enthused about going to the cinema, as well as the content of the films themselves.

Chapek was suppose to introduce Elton John for a concert at Dodgers(?) stadium Saturday or Sunday night. I bet that was an ackward moment. “Mr. Chapek, we have some bad news...”

Iger started the woke cr*p. Chapek just kept it going and became the fall guy. If I'm not mistaken, I think Iger is the main reason there has never been a DVD or blu ray release of "Song of the South" in the U.S.

Sometimes the person that gets you there isn't the person that can keep you there. Marvel has definitely been going downhill lately. Plus he's no longer making the movies I like and I don't care what anyone else likes. Dr. Strange was still cool, though.

My fan edit of Eternals is awesome.

To be absolutely fair to Bob Chapek, a lot of the credit for the early-2000's golden age of DVD goes his way.

They have a back catalog of titles held hostage akin to the money sitting in Scrooge McDuck's Vault. Offsetting the cost of beefing up their streaming services via licenses and disc releases would only help to broaden the content on their service while also bringing in added revenue. It seems like a no brainer.
by the nature of belonging to this forum, a lot of members don't realize that we as physical media collectors are a niche market at this point. At this point a majority of consumers will opt for the convenience of streaming or digital media

That's me. I just don't care to own "stuff" anymore. I'm perfectly happy to stream at 90% quality compared to disc. Sorry Steedeel.

And if Way of the Water really needs two billion just to break even they really do need China.

What I want do see in the future is more 2D animated films and less CGI films, not to mention more DVD/Blu-Ray releases of classic Disney animated shows and some 4K releases of classic Disney animated films. Maybe give the Disney Treasures collection a Blu-Ray release.

Why not? Please tell me he's not the reason 2D animation has almost completely disappeared.
