AVOD is just another choice...a bad one in my opinion, but not everyone is a wealthy blu-ray.com forum member and active home theater enthusiast. You know, it's a "let them eat cake" kinda thing for the unwashed masses.

It also probably makes great business sense to offer an AVOD option. Afterall, streaming services have visions of profits dancing in their heads...even if that is the only place that they have seen them so far.

You're not very good at following instructions, either.

Now more than ever, people are looking to save money and that's what AVOD offers. Either less expensive premium streamers like Netflix and Disney+ or with so many free AVODs like Tubi, Pluto, etc.

Analysists are predicting that AVODs will be more popular than SVODs in the near future.

SVODs rely solely on the number of subs for revenue. Adding AVOD brings in ad money. LOTS of it.

Me personally, I watch a few. Not too many ads - gives me a chance to hit the bathroom or the kitchen.

Called it.

Saving money wasting time is false economy to me but I do see your point more than I typically would.

At least AVOD streaming has far fewer commercials AND it costs much, much less than cable TV.

We have endured ad infested television channels for decades while paying hefty cable bills for the "privilege." Up to 20 minutes of advertising per viewing hour; that's what's enough to make you . Not to worry, though, there will be plenty of Big Pharma ads to help us with the nausea.

Commercials: bringing new meaning to the term "ad nauseum."

Not me. I want to die destitute and utterly penniless.

If I achieve this lofty goal it would mean that I indulged myself completely and that my spirit would not be earthbound haunting the hell out of whomever inherited my money.

As long as they inherit your movie collection they will be wealthy enough.

Off topic but if I didn't expect to see Andy Taylor, Ozzy and Nick Mason ever working together. They are making a holiday single for cancer charity.

Details here.

Song is called This Christmas Time and is available now on YouTube, Apple music and most likely Spotify

Last discs of the year, I expect, are the Columbo DVD boxset. Have way too many shows to watch on DVD and BD between my almost daily movies now, but I take it Columbo's disconnected stories can be spaced out over years and years.

Having too much to watch is probably my favorite thing to complain about.

Avatar 2 was amazing. Great use of HFR. See in the biggest/loudest theater you can get to.

Obviously for some it is not worthwhile already but since they raise prices regularly I don't think that will stop and by having a cheaper option it does make it easier to raise prices (i.e. if you are not happy go with the cheaper option).

That's a system that works. The new "pay me for these ads" strategy is going to be interesting.

Magazines have ads so I guess it isn't really new. I didn't ever realize when I was young that Mad Magazine never had Ads while the original creators were in charge. (until a friend told me then I realized.)
not just magazines the specialty channels where paid for and had ads

there are too many services and not enough good content to be spread out, when Covid hit people spent less and were a lot more at home so the were willing to splurge on content. People are realizing they don't watch many of them and decide to drop/downgrade some of the services. cheaper with ads is a way to convince people not to drop their services.
