MONEY FROM HOME was photographed in standard aspect ratio 1.37:1 Dynoptic 3-D. This complex system interlocked a pair of three-strip Technicolor cameras meaning that six rolls of film (yellow, cyan, magenta left and right) went through the cameras for every take.

Hal Wallis’ million dollar production was scheduled for a gala New Year’s Eve premiere in 3-D across the country on December 31, 1953. However, Technicolor was not able to prepare the left/right 35mm prints in time and the previews were shown flat. When the film went into wide release in early 1954, 3-D movies were dying at the boxoffice so the film only had 356 playdates in 3-D and 17,220 theatres showed it flat. That is unfortunate as it is a beautifully photographed stereoscopic motion picture.

I'm a bit confused by
When the film went into wide release in early 1954, 3-D movies were dying at the boxoffice so the film only had 356 playdates in 3-D and 17,220 theatres showed it flat

While it was once easy to find number of motion picture theaters-by-year in the USA, such info now seems limited and hard to find on the internet. But, as I recall, 17,220 theaters would have been just about every theater in the USA in 1954 — And the theaters back then were almost all single-screens.

Those were the numbers I was given by a very reputable inside source. I suspect that’s a worldwide total.

As of 1951, there were 95,155 theaters worldwide and 19,796 in the United States. Those statistics do not include drive-in screens.

Default MONEY FROM HOME 3D Blu-ray

While you do not specifically state this is the title you were referring to hopefully this is it. If so, it has been a long time coming. FLIGHT TO TANGIER would cap the Paramount 1950s 3D movies.

Thanks for the reply. Help me find those lists and figures again. I once was able to find such information at .gov and exhibition related sites. Now nothing that I can easily find goes back further than 1987.

Well. If the year is 1954 (which would make it almost 70 years old, there are at least eight that Bob, Greg and the 3D archives crew can beautifully restore. And probably more.

If this ends up not being the title that is about to be announced, then you need to be right up there with Houdini for being a master of misdirection.

Well I figure it's probably a Paramount title since they're announcing others the day after. Money from Home seems a better fit than Flight to Tangier. Won't be long now.

SOUTHWEST PASSAGE is the only real other possibility. Either way, I'm for it. Be neat to have BOTH.

Quite a surprise! Last we heard this had an apparently insurmountable music rights issue. Glad this has been resolved.

Overjoyed!

Yes, the amazing people at Kino worked very hard with the studio to clear the music rights several months ago. I’ve been dying to share this announcement!

I take back every unkind thing I've ever said over the years about Universal.

As for 3DFA and Kino, if I if I put my overwhelming affection fully to words they may both feel compelled to take out a restraining order on me....
