THE GLASS WEB is a great example of Kino going above and beyond to rescue a rare film from the vaults.

For years, complicated music clearance issues have prevented any kind of home video release. That did not stop Kino from working overtime to clear those issues with the studio and make this 3-D restoration possible. The film is masterfully photographed for widescreen 3-D by veteran cinematographer Maury Gertsman.

Bravo, Kino Lorber!

A win-win for the music rights holders and for us, the 3-D viewing audience! A shame when movies go unseen for such reasons and everyone loses. Kudos to Kino Lorber, I hope their persistence is rewarded with another successful release.

I really dig the composition of that poster with Edward G. Robinson's distinctive head looming behind the screen like some monolithic stone sculpture, dramatically emerging from the shadows. ...Perhaps they went just a little heavy on eye shadow and lip colour. I take it he doesn't play a part in drag.

I am shocked. This is amazing news. I loved The Glass Web but only saw it in 2D. Thank you Kino.

Those complex optical shots with the flat TV monitor overlays are VERY well done!

Great news for the new year! Is there a chance the music rights can be cleared for the Nat King Cole & Russ Morgan's Orchestra short?

Doubtful, there was just one problematic song in the feature. The shorts have five or six!

For those keeping score. We have twelve vintage 3-D restorations in the pipeline and one extensive flat project.

The five 3-D titles that have been publicly announced are:

1. Bwana Devil
2. Prison Girls
3. The Glass Web
4. Robot Monster
5. The Bubble Roadshow

Plus:

The Abbott and Costello Show - Season Two (26 episodes)

In short, we are VERY busy.

Happy 2023, everyone!

So excited about THE GLASS WEB. I've never seen it before but am a huge fan of Edward G. Robinson. It will be great to see him in three dimensions. And Kathleen Hughes in 3-D again! Out of curiosity, what is the song that caused this one to be held up? You really have to hand it to Kino for fighting for this one. That says a lot. And how about Universal, which has now made all of its Golden Age 3-D holdings available for fans. Awesome!

I feel that Universal are too often viewed unfairly on this forum. They’ve given us 3D fans a lot over the past 10 years and were one of the last to jump ship on modern 3D blu ray releases. No idea what involvement they needed to have in order for this to get over the line, but hats off to them once again. Whether the Universal execs care about vintage 3D or not; at least they aren’t sitting on it, because the effort to license them wasn’t financially rewarding enough.

I’m really excited to see the glass web. There’s so much talent in the crew and Jack Arnold at the helm. It’s going to be an absolute 3D feast!

I saw Glass Web in 35mm 3D at Film Forum in 2016. Will be glad to see it again. Unfortunately I read the wrong article on it beforehand which spoiled the whodunit (so be careful just like Gog or the Maze).

With 25 releases for the Golden Age..halfway there! Color beating b and w 13-12....
