Yeah, the Alienses are one thing but Fox literally had 4K HDR masters of the other Die Hards ready to go when they released just the first film on UHD. It was only that film’s anniversary, true, but whole franchise collections have been launched for more spurious reasons than that! It seemed like Fox had kinda given up on physical media at that point, even pre-buyout.

Either option is horrible. That’s what I mean when I said it’s impossible. Yes, it COULD be done. But unless he releases the DC in 1.85:1, it can never truly be done properly. It’ll be a bad compromise whichever way it’s done, and it’s a problem that Stallone didn’t have to create.

All this talk about AR, and I'm still watching my old DVD in "fullscreen" that has way more headroom lol.

I think I read something about Stallone is working on a new cut of part 5. I think some are making much to big a deal about it not being a complete set. If they are released individually then what's the problem? it's not going to hurt you picking up part 5 and 6 at a later time, and at the same time allow you to enjoy the first 4 sooner. It's natural to always react at the negative points to something I guess, but it's not healthy either. I'm excited for these.

This 1-4 set is perfect for me as I only want those in my collection. But I can understand if people don't like incomplete box sets, I'm like that too. I'm still waiting for a complete Indy and Mission Impossible sets. But this Knockout set is complete for me.

I'm operating from memory here, so I can't provide the actual disc to prove it. But, I distinctly remember that Rocky IV was 2.35:1 (and 4:3 letterbox) in the original Region 1 DVD pressing. That disc was recalled because it was missing the subtitles for the Russian dialogue.

The replacement DVD was a different 1.85:1 scan (and 16:9 enhanced). At the time, I remember wondering if it had been cropped to match the others and wishing I'd kept my original disc.

Point being, 2.39 or 2.35 might be the original intended AR, not just something Stallone recently decided.

Nope, it’s always been 1.85:1 unless the original DVD was incorrectly made. All of the footage in the new cut is cropped compared to the original ratio.

I think all the Rocky sequels have a place. They should all be released in 4K and people can make their own choices. Personally love them all. Think it’s pretty disgraceful some people don’t want to see Sage Stallone’s earring in 4K.
