I heard the Fox DVD of My Neighbor Totoro was a technical nightmare, and the rerelease of that movie by Disney had gotten rid of the problems (Disney version was in widescreen, none of the bothersome edge enhancement, multichannel audio, offered Japanese with subtitles i think, the transfer didn't had the punchy unnatural color platete that made it look like a saturday morning cartoon, artifact clean (mostly), and many other problems I'm not gonna talk about). Has anyone ever seen Grave of the Fireflies? One truly sad War movie from Studio Ghibli. It's also their best film and I think one of the best War movies in a long time, about two kids during the bomb raids on japan during World War II, with their home burned down with their mother, father in the navy, moved to their aunt, very ungrateful, having to suffer from people that don't give a damn but themselves. Depressing, powerful, but not in that Hollywood sentimentalism, but in a rather realistic human nature manner. It was treated as a children's film, but wasn't released by disney due to the depressing nature, and some graphic war images (Such as their mother's body shown burnt), and depravity to the children. Still something definately woth watching, but the DVD may be hard to find.
