I'm only upgrading a precious few favourites on 4K Blu-ray, so having Scream Factory reissue a lot of films on 4K is fine by me! There are plenty of other titles I want from Kino, VS, and others, so it gives me a bit of breathing room. Sceam's 2023 announcements so far seem to be a good balance of new-to-Blu-ray-in-North-America and 4K upgrades.

I'm actually okay with a lot of these re-releases. Like others have said, the well is drying up and there's not a whole lot of stuff left (stuff that will SELL, I should add) to put out on BD.

And many of these titles getting re-released on 4K were from their early days as a label. Titles like Cat People and Red Dawn were in desperate need of a remaster, and I'm grateful those made it to UHD.

I'm ok with the 4K upgrades as long as the discs are not scratched or have encoding errors

Scream Factory has a lot of BD releases with old masters, so I'm excited for any and all UHD upgrades if only for guaranteeing a fresh scan of films that deserve to be preserved.

It's weird to me to see people say they are not gonna upgrade to 4k ever? I hesitated when blu ray came in because I had such a large dvd collection already. But 4k is like the last upgrade you will have to do. Unless you are utilizing a 100 inch display or something 8K will never be anything more than niche imo.

Unless it is a rare title that I don't think will ever be released on 4K, I'm buying almost exclusively 4K these days. I hope 4k releases from Scream/Vinegar/Kino et all continues to grow.

Edit to say, 4K is going to be the last upgrade I will ever have to make. In hindsight there may be more people willing to upgrade to 8K than I'm accounting for.

I get that. I have a buddy that still buys DVDs as his main format, and I raise my eyebrow at that.

I have no intention of doing it at the moment (that could change) because blu-ray is good enough for me. I've seen the comparisons and I don't deny that there is a difference and 4K looks great. I'm sure I'll make the jump when 4K becomes the dominant format and quality blu-ray releases becomes less and less.

I, like most of you, grew up on video store worn VHS tapes, so the kid in me feels like a damn king when I watch something on blu-ray.

Lol, yeah I remember standing in the local video store(my goal was to own one, dodged a bullet on that) no internet, the only guidance you had was the blurb on the box as to whether what you were renting was good or not.

I'm happy that distributors like Scream and Kino are bothering to put out lesser titles on blu, I will just always pick the 4k option when it's available. I've even bought a couple 4k's that weren't that high on my wishlist just to support the format.

And some of us old timers grew up watching films this way...

Sorry if this not particularly a Scream question but I have noticed in the last year, especially with UHD's Scream does not ship from their site nor release a chunk of them outside the US. I never noticed such a thing from them in the years of collecting their blurays, especially Collectors Editions. Just off the top of my head; The Halloween 4K Collection (1995 - 2002), The Company Of Wolves, Black Christmas, The Boxtrolls, Coraline UHD's are not available in Canada

I am just curious if anyone has any insight as to why? Is it that Scream cannot get the rights (perhaps studio related?) for here or are making a business decision due to cost?

I would assume it's a rights issue. Shout Factory (Scream Factory's parent) seems to be one of the few boutique labels with access to most, if not all, of the US major studios. I'm guessing that Shout Factory made be only purchasing the US release rights.

Thanks, that does make sense. Just sucks, I have rarely seen that in previous years. We are Region 1 too *cry* UHD's seems to of changed the region game

It took me four years to switch over from DVD to blu-ray (2010), mainly because of the expense of buying a 1080p TV and blu-ray player. It then took me another four years to upgrade from 1080p to 4K (2020) for the same reason. I still buy plenty of blu-rays because most of the movies I want are only available in that format, but I buy 4K UHD releases every chance I get. The funniest thing is that at one point I thought DVD was the best thing that could ever happen to home video. I quickly grew to dislike and look down on DVD after switching over to blu-ray, though.

+1. I have no interest in buying most of the upgrades. Bright side...is that I will get to save some serious dough $.

Saving money is always good. Those of us who may be addicted to buying movies may not be so lucky, though. If enough boutiques stick to just doing upgrades we may not want or need, how will we addicts get our fix? I really don't want to take up gardening

It's real simple for me. Films I don't have, if there's a 4K option. I'll but it, if the price is fair.

But I'm not double dipping. These companies aren't getting my money. Especially when they released the standard Blu several times to gouge the consumer. They must think we are stupid.

My blu's look fantastic on my 4K TV.

I understand 100%. I still buy Classic Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal CD's...like they are going out of style.
