I was born in 1983, but my point is that you should try not to think too much about it, because they're going to be there. I noticed something last night as well, although I can't recall exactly what it was.

Yeah, That 70s Show didn't exactly line up with mid-late 70s all the time either as it was "modernized" for a late 90s audience at the time too.

It's a sitcom, so it's always going to play fast and loose with that kind of stuff. The budgets ain't that high lol

I think they did a good job. Red and Kitty's house gives me Clarissa vibes actually. My grandma had that couch and those exact pillows.

Love that the new basement has the old living room.

Finished watching yesterday. Overall not bad. I'll watch season 2 if they do one. Maybe flesh out the new characters a bit. They're kinda stuck in that limbo of being new characters and tapping into the old characters. The cliffhanger ending also felt a bit forced. Appearances from the OG cast are the shows strongest points.

Now if the OG cast would IDK actually interact it might be better. They had a July 4th cookout and all the cast was there but they never interacted They could have easily had Red, Kitty, Kelso, Donna, Jackie, and Eric interact in the first episode but they didnt.

Only interaction we got was the end of the season for 2 seconds.

Yeah I must admit I was a bit disappointed to see a BTS image of Topher, Laura, Mila, and Ashton on set but we never got a scene with all of them in the episode. Definitely some missed opportunities this first season.

That's the edge I think 70s had was having a 20+ episode first season, a lot of it I'm sure had to be condensed for half the episode count.

Another thing I was curious about was whether they would do the dreams/cutaways like in That 70s and I loved the
[Show spoiler]90210 and "Ozzie" bits

Ozzie is the best non-grandparent character.

Finally watched the first episode the other day. Thankfully Netflix is one of the few streaming services that doesn't require a VPN for use from here in PNG.

My wife and I are big fans of the original That 70's Show. We have it on Blu-Ray disc and break it out every year or two to binge.

Our initial thoughts are that while not as bad as a lot of other sequels/spinoffs of TV shows, this one definitely isn't as good as the original. But we agreed that it would have been almost impossible to catch the magic that we felt watching the original gang of friends. It also feels like a lot of the cameos throughout the series will be forced and not seem very natural.

We'll continue watching the series but I'm not sure if it will have the same level of rewatchability as the original series.

First episode: 7 out of 10 (could have been a 6 but I'm hoping some more chemistry among the new friends grows)

The kids need some work for sure. My take after finishing S1 is that this feels like two different shows. One is a '70s Show reunion and the other one feels a bit Disney Channel. I never once got Disney Channel vibes when watching Eric and the gang.

How about this theory: Where's the real conflict? In the first season of the original show, Eric dealt with his best friend trying to win over his girlfriend, his best friend being homeless, his father losing his job, jerks and bullies, etc. In contrast, Leia had very little to confront in this first season of '90s Show. She

, but I'm struggling to recall anything else.

That being said, I seriously laughed a lot on a few occasions. Loved
[Show spoiler]Fenton's comeback.
There's potential.

Although I haven't seen much in the way of Disney Channel shows in the past few decades (moved overseas in 1999 and my kids never were into those shows on years we were back in the States), I do think I would probably feel the same about Disney Channel show friend groups as I do with this group of friends. The problem is that That 70's Show was anything but a Disney Channel style group of friends.

Still haven't seen much of the original show but have enjoyed it the times I saw it on tv.

I watched a few episodes. It's OK.

These kids don't have quite the same charm as the kids in the 70s show. The formula is mostly there. Their characters are still being discovered, I feel. Could also be a bit of a "chemistry" thing between the cast that will improve if there are more seasons.

Red and Kitty are still great characters.

That redhead actress who plays Donna has had horrible cosmetic surgery. My god. I could hardly look at her ghoulish face in that first episode.

He had a few good lines but he was very one-note. And keeping banging on about his sexuality doesn't make a personality and became stale very quickly. Leia was way better

I wasn't wowed by the newbies but they were growing on me by the time the show ended. Man, I miss when these things typically ran for 24 episodes. Kitty and Red do a lot of the heavy lifting, and that Chez Fez ad made me scream.

I'd happily watch a second season, but Netflix get off on cancelling shit so I won't get my hopes up.

I can't believe how good this was. Way, way better than I had hoped. Maybe the stank from Blockbuster was still sitting in my home theatre, making me expect the worst.

We could barely finish the first episode of Blockbuster. So, while nowhere near on par with That 70's Show, That 90's Show could have been a lot worse.

This sort of thing pisses me off.

I wish that writers who create a gay character would write a good character first, then make them gay.

Making someone "gay" isn't making a character.

It's not hard. But they sure have a hard time doing it.

Agreed. It's already tiresome just two episodes into the show for us. It's lazy writing and doesn't require any real ability on the actor's part. It's as if the creator and writers just want to check the 'gay-character' box off their list rather than giving the audience a gay character with whom they can feel some level of connection.
