I'll call everyone up and have them say it's shit so then the consensus will be that it is "objectively" shit and then you won't need to buy it.

I wonder what exactly Coppola removed. Was it just a generally tightening up, or did he remove entire scenes, characters, subplots? Did he add anything? New color grade? And I suppose, more crucially, what was the goal of this new version? What makes it more authentic to him? |

Wait, is this a shorter cut? I really wish there was some proper information about this new release. I'm seeing conflicting reports all over the internet.
The original cut was 88 minutes. This site's listing says the new cut is 95 minutes. Amazon says 2 hours and 19 minutes. I've seen different articles about it variably list the running time 79, 88, or 89 minutes! Rotten Tomatoes even says it's PG-13, which is probably bs. It's like nobody really knows or cares to be precise and are just making stuff up! My guess? It's 79 minutes, like you folks are saying. Amazon's 2hr 19min was supposed to read 1hr 19min (79min). And it's probably R-rated or not rated at all. But seriously, we're talking about a new cut of a Francis Ford Coppola movie that already played in theaters back in September. How has nobody on the internet reviewed it and detailed the differences??? Can somebody help me? Last edited by Protozoid; 01-31-2023 at 07:59 AM. Reason: spelling and grammar |

These have been my thoughts exactly - when this was first announced I look high and low for any sign of discussion from back then, and found absolutely nothing beyond the session times for the screenings. Kinda wild that not a single person walked out of those and thought 'Huh, this info might be of some interest to some people' and then uploaded their thoughts somewhere.

Still... I'm surprised and a little sad about the lack of curiosity. I don't even like this movie very much and I'm intensely curious. My editor brain finds recuts by major filmmakers incredibly fascinating. |

Has he gone back to the drawing board with a bunch of different takes I wonder, or is it a more standard re-edit and trim? Only a few weeks until we find out, I suppose. |

I didn’t hate this movie but I didn’t exactly love it. I think I had more fun with Gia Coppola’s behind the scenes stuff since she got to film her grandpa and we got to see Kilmer in his element just being silly.
Yet, at the same time, this film always intrigued me. Looking forward to the new edit since I just watched this the other week so it’s semi-fresh in my brain. Still can’t believe that Tom Waits narrates the beginning and then we never hear his voice again. Or am I mistaken? I don’t recall him coming back in the mix. Maybe the new cut has more. |

Couldn't they just put multiple cuts on the disc but with no control over which one plays? That might re-create the experience he was after.

That would be cool. Or have three options: theatrical cut, Authentic cut, or scene randomizer where it builds a unique cut using scenes from both.

The original movie was universally disliked, can't get worse I'd think?
At least with this you know you have the director's preferred version the abomination ![]() It sounds like when the movie first came out Coppola was more interested in random playback of scenes and experimental exhibition, so I'm not sure how much love the theatrical version actually got from him. I bet this one will be better. Quote:
This release would benefit tremendously from a black blu-ray case ALSO, the digital copy doesn't redeem properly in VUDU. And getting some read issue at 2:58 but may by the crappy external optical drive I'm using Last edited by Ruined; 02-28-2023 at 05:18 PM. |
