Allowing more R-rated stuff would help the DCU stand-out from MCU, but I wonder if WB would let them experiment with that with Batman. Joker and TSS are one thing, but Batman's their big name.

If you count Keaton in The Flash, and if this new movie comes out in or before 2026, we'll have 4 live action Batmen in only 4 years. |

Batman and Damien's relationship summed up in Injustice 2:
Batman: I don't have time for this, Damien Damien: A good father would make time. Batman: A better son would deserve it. If they get this right, then we have something. |

Reeves Batman is or was a direct replacement once no further Batfleck content was ever going to come and the alleged cameo in Flash is also apparently being cut/dropped or rejigged, however, what's weird to me is that Gunn specifically references Flash as being tied to the new movies directly whereas Mamoa and Gadot are merely seen as being invited to reprise their respective roles under a completely new direction/timeline it almost seems. The whole thing doesn't seem like they've committed to a "clean break" on one side, yet mostly all the stuff they want to do is at the price of dropping pretty much everything before. Personally i hope the DC stuff works out as i've always wanted to see both do well. It's a golden age foe CBMs but Marvel imo has had some recent fumbles in their formula imo post-Endgame as they again, imo struggle to fully establish themselves a future road. Phase 1 was seen as a bit of a happy coincidence that worked out but once they got the pieces moving, it's silly to try and compare the behemoth the MCU became and the connected nature of it back to Phase 1 like they're back at trying to connect properties with a really loose attachment. |

To each their own, but I highly doubt Gunn is going to reference Injustice for well, ANYTHING.

So The Flash and Aquaman 2 come out, effectively closing out the Snyder era continuity, but we will likely retain some of the old actors going forward. Margo Robbie could appear as Quinn alongside a new Joker, Gal Gadot might return as WW alongside a new Batman, etc. It might be a little confusing to general audiences, but I think with the multiverse already established, people will get it. I expect we won't know what is actually part of the new continuity until this year's movies come out, because if a movie is not going to be part of continuity they won't destroy the hype by saying that. But I predict these movies will serve as a "Chapter 0" and be a full part of the DCU:

The rivalry between Damian and Grayson is just as important as Bruce and Damian. The other sons have to be there. They can save Red Hood, as Jason is still his one failure. That failure is what pushes Bruce to give Damian so many chances.

I mean trust me, I want it distinctly different from MCU type "fun", but this is really their best opportunity to find a happy medium between the brooding darkness of Nolan/Snyder and the Burton/Schumacher city of Gotham that actually felt "fun" and alive.

Plus with Reeves' Batman being decidedly in the dark-crime-drama territory I'd say it's safe to assume DC will shoot for something tonally different. |

What does an R rating really get you with the super hero genre though? More violence? Sex? Just curious. IMO, the best super hero films are great as is and I dont see how an R-rating could have made them better. Or, I dont see how super hero films that sucked would suddenly be good with an R rating.
