ITV X (U.K. streaming service)

Just curious to see what others think of this new service. It’s rolling out to smart TVs and streaming devices next week but it’s already on some devices including the IPad.

Early observations
As expected, quite buggy with freezes and other glitches.
UI much improved with a Netflix like experience (although nowhere near as polished yet)
Picture quality improved from the previous catch up service ITV hub. Content now obviously HD (1080p I think) hopefully it looks good on a tv (expect it will)
Optional Britbox and third party paid subscription offering is quite good with multiple series of old timers like Grange Hill, Catweazle, The Sweeney etc..
Decent amount of films for a free with ads service, mixture of old and new(ish) content. I counted around 200+ films.

Odd glitch on IPad with Black bars appearing light Blue!

Plenty of room for improvement but the HD quality is a good start.

No issues with playback, we have Britbox, mainly for Doctor Who, which we've gone through, so not sure if it's worth keeping as we're not using it much, if at all.

What's the X supposed to mean? For someone unaware they may think it's an "adult-only" streaming service.

I’m just testing it out, probably go back to the free basic offering if I feel the value isn’t there. ITV did say they are adding other third party content to the paid offering so we shall see.

They just wanted to be different, so instead of having ITV+, they rotated the + at 45 Degree angle

On another note, does anyone know where I can get the ITVX GoogleTV (not phone/tablet) apk ?

It should just update from the ITV hub. Which tv do you have?

Just watched Nollie with Helena Bonham Carter via Nvidia shield, and the picture quality was abysmal. It felt like I was watching SD, but for such a new high profile series, i was disappointed. Had to lower the brightness as it had a grey wash to it.

Strange, I find the PQ to far superior to the old ITV hub. Looked HD for a start. Wouldn’t let it near my HT but good enough for living room tv (55 inch OLED)
