I saw it last night as well and it’s in scope. There is are some HFR scenes but only a handful that stood out (mainly 1912 arrival at the dock, the big Jack/Rose chase through the ship and some others scattered about).

Was it awful? No. It wasn’t anywhere near the same level as T2 but there was definitely some shenanigans going on. It felt like some scenes looked really good, maybe a little DNR but still good detail. Then other scenes, particularly some close ups, had added sharpening so things like the wrinkles on Old Rose or the pores on Jack’s face just really stood out. On some of those same scenes there was obvious blurring on faces when the character would talk. Face super sharp and then smooth as their face was moving and then sharp when they stopped and then smooth again. It was a little distracting.

Also a handful of 3D anomalies that I’d don’t recall seeing on prior 3D viewing (but may have been there before) such as some haloing effects around heads in a couple shots (young Rose on deck telling Jack to leave her deck and Old Rose dropping the Heart of the Ocean at the end). Presumably this is because they couldn’t get a good cutout of their hair on those situations for the 3D effect but it was rather obvious with the blurring. There’s also a shot in the final tracking scene heading towards Jack waiting at the clock where we see a deck chair that appears to split into two.

As previously stated, hopefully these are just issues with the 3D master and aren’t present on the 2D master. The 2012 transfer was stunning and done in 4K so just do an HDR grade on that for the disc release.

I saw Titanic yesterday at a Dolby Cinema 3D AMC theater. Presentation was in scope and no HFR. The seat ButtKickers were also not active.

I see a lot of conflicting information online, but I’m starting to suspect that HFR was part of marketing, but somehow got pulled or cancelled.

Dang, reading this thread is making me feel slightly less excited to go see it. Good thing I only paid $7 total for my ticket at my local IMAX theater for next Tuesday... Why can't we just have our cake and eat it too? Is that too much to ask?

From the looks of it they’ve AI upscaled it into 4K 3D as there has been no new film transfer or 3D conversion (3D was done at 2K, the 2D was 4K finished) hence the exaggerated smearing, sharpening and general weirdness, and it’ll exacerbate the existing conversion artefacts too.

The thing I fear is them taking the upscaled 3D and just dumping it onto 4K disc, which pretty much happened with T2 UHD (as although that wasn’t an ‘eye’ from the 3D conversion it had all the shitty degraining and sharpening applied to it anyway, and is also a 2K upscale).

The cinema I’m seeing it at is so dark for 3D projektion that although it’ll be hard to see that might be a blessing in disguise

There was definitely HFR in my presentation, it just wasn’t abundant. Definitely nowhere near as heavy as the Avatars so I probably didn’t even notice it some times.

My theater forgot to turn on the 3D until someone went and told them so the first few minutes was 2D.

During one of the Avatar 2 Dolby Cinema 3D showings we attended, 3D was also off. I complained and they restarted the movie in 3D, but the now the ButtKickers were disabled. We left and got a refund. But I found out that no projectionist or any technical staff is on premise at any time and everything is completely automated or controlled from far away. If anything needs repair, all work is outsourced. In regards to the staff that was there, I’ll be polite and just not say anything at all. But it’s almost as if the theaters are intentionally self sabotaging and then complaining that attendance is down. Very strange behavior.

It’s been going downhill for a while, but it’s especially concerning that these kind of mistakes are happening to premium screens now. That’s really unacceptable. That's fair enough, we don't really have a lot "premium" screens over here, it's all minimally staffed multiplex bullshit. A few IMAXes dotted about, sure, but we didn't even have a single Dolby Cinema venue until a few years ago.

should be a hint that you're watching a HFR version,
unless there's an option for motion interpolation at the theaters.

I was able to catch a screening on Friday, and yeah, I would temper my expectations considerably for an eventual 4K if they end up using that master. I found the DNR very distracting, and it looks way too processed for my taste, so we may have a new T2 on our hands.

Hopefully they come to their senses and use the already existing 4K master sans DNR for the UHD, but I'm not holding my breath.

I saw it in IMAX 3D. Definitely no HFR. I could tell cause I saw HFR immediately on Avatar 2 when those scenes came up. Either people mistook excessive DNR/waxy look of handful of scenes, or there are two versions floating around the world. In general, it wasn’t terribad, but without a single grain and some weird 3D geometry in places, it wasn’t my cup of tea.
