For any US folks that are still looking.
Diabolik 20+
Grindhouse 13
Orbit 24+ (if you order use code CHASE for 15% off and 3FREE for free shipping on 3 or more titles)

They all sold out but got stock back quickly.

I have the box with the CDs, though I would move to the smaller set in a heartbeat if there were a way to get the CDs separately. Soundtrack yes, but not the two discs of cues. I keep looking.
It's not available for US based people to order direct from SS, and until this last batch had been OOS for quite a while. Just trying to help others is all.

Reordered from OrbitDVD using the code, came down to $37

I had ordered it from a Finnish company, but they were taking forever and I figured returns would be a nightmare so I looked for somewhere domestic (the Finnish one was the cheapest). After BlowitOuttahere cancelled on me, I was gonna make do without... until I saw the code lol

Well looks like you'll be in luck because I believe OrbitDVD has better packaging than blowitoutahere. blowitoutahere just ships 1 copy in a paper bag. You'd need 2 to get a box.

Thanks for taking one for the team, but never gonna happen as long as Rubenstein is alive.

Mr Rubenstein must have lost a lot of "doh-ray-me" on that 3D version to want such a high price for the North American rights. I wonder how much Second Sight made on their release (We'll never know down to business confidentiality) but it would be interesting.

Probably not as much as he wants for North America, but still a high sum. I think one of the reasons he agreed to licence it to Second Sight might be the fact that it's a UK only release.

Considering they sold 24 thousand limited editions plus who knows how many standard editions I'm sure Second Sight did quite well.

Jokes on him. Look how many of us on the other side own it. Almost like he had never heard of importing.

The funny part is, because of the sheer number of people who imported it, the actual value of obtaining US rights probably dropped significantly for any interested labels. Dawn is probably my favorite movie of all time. I've owned pretty much every US iteration of it since VHS, but I can see zero reason, outside of some new amazing special features, to get a US release. As far as I'm concerned, the LE UHD from Second Sight is as good as it's ever going to get.

Second Sight put together such a packed set and authored by Fidelity in Motion of all things, which for those in the know is very attractive. That's about as definitive and must-have as it gets for the movie on home video right now. If one day a US outlet or even Criterion puts it out I'm sure the super anal who need every edition will grab it but for the rest of us, you get Pixelogic-vision and whatever else on top of it and it's just not even close. It'd still sell pretty great I feel. But still.

Second Sight swung the bat and hit a home run. End of story.

Yup. That's the thing. Even if it got released in the US, it most likely won't look and/or sound as great as the SS release. They probably won't be allowed to use the SS 4K master/restoration. So they'd have to do their own restoration and even then it would be a matter of if they'd be granted access to the OCN. Another question would be if Michael Gornick would be willing to help with the transfer again? Probably not. And if by some miracle SS would allow them to use their 4K restoration, the encode would definitely be of lesser quality, simply because David M. of FiM wouldn't do it. Man, that's a lot of big ifs...

It'd probably use the same restoration in all likelyhood, they wouldn't pull the material again. It's all a joint deal, you see this with Turbine commissioned masters released by Arrow and vice-versa for example. That said the encode wouldn't be as good, unless by some stroke of luck it went to one of the other indies who use FiM.

I just remembered an interview with Cliff from Shout where he openly admitted that they tried to get the rights to Dawn for many years and even were very close to finally getting them, before Rubenstein changed his mind. Then he just resignated and said "but what's the point in keep trying, now that Second Sight have released the ultimate set".

A USA label could still add the 3D version, the complete version that includes all the footage from the three official versions, the open matte version from the Italian release and a special limited edition case shaped like George Romero's head.

Yeah I ain't buying this again. The LE Second Sight UHD is pretty damn definitive. Three cuts of the movie, a disc full of extras, 3 CD soundtracks, the novel and a thick book full of criticism/essays. Yeah, I'm good lol.
