![]() On topic: I don't have a special shelf for blu-rays, I just like them looking the same; which is already hard with the different sizes of the normal cases. |

That tab is there only for increased security in stores. Thieves aren't able to simply slit the plastic and slip the disc out in a matter of a split second anymore. Now, they have to cause a bit more fuss in order to get those discs out... increase risk of being caught = decrease in lost revenue from theft. |

Over time, the cases will become standardised like DVD cases. Give it a couple of years and all blu will be released within one type of case. Only TV and special editions will have different cases. Digi and Steel books releases will become fewer and only be released for very special editions.
Saying that, I have no problems with them as I have yet to buy one. The only different cases I have over the standard ones are the two American slim cases I have. |

I don't like digibooks for two reasons, for me they are not needed, all these pages on the movie I will never care to read and it's an excuse for stores to sell it at a higher price because of the extra stuff that's added.
It's the same reason why I don't like the box set releases like Casablanca or Wizard Of Oz, full of stuff I don't need or care about at a much higher price. So I don't buy them. |

I take care of my BD cases like I take car of my car.
![]() I don't care about what type of case the movies comes with. However, I don't like the eco cases that Fox provides. They are annoying. |

No, I just don't like bananas either...is that wrong some way? It comes down to personal taste, I was just trying to be honest, that does not mean someone else cannot like them...

in regards to the consistency argument, i don't get it either..this is nothing new: not all dvds were the same size. in fact, many editions had special casing or packaging that was larger than a normal dvd case
![]() you want uniformity, go back to buying vhs ![]() Last edited by Sussudio; 07-10-2009 at 01:16 PM. |

those damn VHS cases werent uniform either..had a ton from europe that came in the larger cases that open from the side instead of sliding out from the bottom
![]() ![]() but on topic..digibooks are not my favorite because I do have to sperate them from the others to get a uniform look. I guess I'm just anal about the way it looks on the shelf. Either way, I learned to live with it. If I want a movie and its only available as a digibook, I'm still getting it..at the end of the day its the disc that matters, not the case. |

For this reason, I either skip the digibook releases, or I import the titles from another territory if I can. |

But even VHS wasn't standard. Some had the compressed paper sleeves, some had plastic shells. The Disney ones in particular had a unique shell. And those Disney ones... it's like they were intentionally designed so that they'd become heavily damaged if you didn't handle them well. So long as different studios are behind this stuff, things will never be consistent across the board (even "standard" cases are far from standard). Height consistency between most normal plastic cases and the book cases would be nice, but it's not a big deal. It's a shame for people who can't fit the extra centimeter of height the book adds, but frankly, I'd just say that's their fault for making their shelf require such a tight fit. With such a tight fit, they must not even be able to fit a lot of boxsets or slipcovered cases in there. |

The case options are there so people can feel good about their OCD. Isn't that what collecting is all about?
I'm all for snatching up things that you like, but within reason. I won't be the guy on the news board going "THAT'S FLAGRANT DOUBLE DIPPING, BUT I HAVE TO DO IT!!!" Digibooks are the same way. If you like the look, then who am I to say anything against it. To me, it looks like studios get people to eat out of their hand by saying that your digibook is somehow more collectible than the regular cover. If you just like the look of the digibook, it's your thing and I won't criticize. For me, if I see the movie that I want at a price I am comfortable with, I just buy it. It must have a case but, I won't go to another store for a different type of case. The only case I've ever brought a movie back for is the Eco-Case because your disc can get scratched while in the case with those things and for the premium dollar blu's cost, I want to be the one doing the scratching. |
