Yep.

If Blu-ray had less sales, then things would be closer.

Well, I'm fairly certain by the first snowfall this year HDDVD won't be looking so hot at all given the manufacturers and movies coming on Blu-ray.

In fact, I actually jumped into my time machine... Flew my ass to December, took this picture of a 'project' the Toshiba guys were working on and came back just to share it with you.

I guess their last hope for '07 is Oct. 16 with the Transformers release.
Paramount doesn't give a sh$t, they have 150 million reasons to not care about any of this. But this will eventually come back to bite them. IMO, they are going to lose more then 150 million in this deal. But I don't really feel sorry for them, if they are that stupid, then so be it. Just another American Corporation looking for the "quick buck" and ignoring the long term. My guess is that within the next three years, they will more then likely lose up to $200 million in lost "opportunity" revenue, because of lost blu ray sales and lost consumer loyalty sentiment, even after their supposed 18 months is up.

And how long before that admission that BD has more movies comes back to bite this monkey in the ass? In 5 minutes he'll be trying to say the opposite in a different thread.

300 is actually 5 weeks old

If you use "Sony Math" (Amount of revenue) I would say that HD handily beat BD this week. Heroes is 3x the cost of 300, which would make it the top grossing title of the week with almost 3 times the revenue of it's closest rival.

Luckily we don't use Sony Math

If you're just going by Top 10 then yes.

At this point Toshiba and Paramount are letting this stupid war dictate when Transformers is going to release.

First why would they put it out so early?

Simple, look very closely at Oct releases. Only ONE title will release on HD and that is a BluRay release as well (Warners Reaper). With the grim reality setting in, they needed something to combat Fantastic 4 and Spiderman 3 or it was game over before the holidays even arrived.

Normally Transformers would have been released Mid/Late Nov or early Dec. The fact they are rushing it in a month where you already have tons of titles out, that just shows HD DVD played a huge part in their decision when this title was going to release. You can't give BluRay an entire month of exclusive boxoffice titles and expect people not to notice.

monumental loss for hd dvd. seriously while 56:44 is closer than previously weeks it is still a definite win, any presidential race that was 56:44 would be considered next to a landslide. given the best show of the year and a decent comedy where up against nothing and still lost is b3yond pathetic.

this really shows how desprit whoever paid the $ is. I mean BoG was pressed they obviously paid extra to not have it in stores and i bet it was on the hope they could win the week and tell everybody at CEDIA about it. well they lost their money and their pride. and this transformers thing is clearly about hd dvd. nobody would have released the biggest movie of the year way outside the holiday "zone" if their wasn't some other reason.

Paramount will not even come close to losing 150 million in sales during that 18 month deal.

Think about it.....say by some miracle Transformers would have sold a million copies, Shrek 3 500k, Blades Of Glory 100k, Next 100k....all on BluRay. That's about $40 million in lost sales (cost wise since they don't get the retailers margin).

Are you really telling me they are crying over this deal if in fact they got $150 million? The only thing they are worried about I bet is pissing other stuidos off by prologing the war.

This does seem like a rush job by Paramount/HD-DUD Group. I wonder how many corners they will cut to get this Transformers HD-DUD out on time and how much the quality of the transfer will suffer because of this time restriction?

Maybe they'll just slap the DVD in an HD-DVD case and call it good. It wouldn't surprise considering their current motto: "HD-DUD - We're Good Enough!" - seems to be the way they roll.

If BoG was already pressed (and we all KNOW it was) and someone PAID to keep it off the shelves... shouldn't this count as if the whole, entire, complete production run had been sold? Or is that just "sold out"?

Just wondering

I don't think Toshiba is going to report to Nielsen that they purchased all of the BOG Blu-ray discs.

Nielsen goes by sales stats that are reported by a broad range of retailers/etailers.
