Sure, but gaming isn't some weird edge case. The eventual size of the PS5/XSX console generation should be something like 150-200 million consoles (based on previous generations). And yeah, that still means that most UHD TV owners won't have one of those consoles, but I don't think it's surprising that "people posting on Reddit or other internet forums" are precisely the group of people most likely to own a game console or two.

The point still stands though about people thinking that 2.1 equipment or cables has any bearing whatsoever on the image quality of 4K movies, I dread to think of how many people have been sold an expensive cable or even new TV on that basis. |

Reality is even the new consoles will struggle with these high frame rates unless you give up other graphic settings. As a PS5 owner I’ve done fine with 4K60 using a HDMI 2.0 AVR. Even though my JVC 3100 supports 48Gbps JVC has said it won’t support VRR and it’s doubtful it ever will. I’ll take my 3100 with 120-in projected image over a smaller display that supports VRR. |

Does anyone know how to force eject a disc out of the 820?
Was watching The Magnificent Seven last night and the player refuses to eject the disc. Tried again this morning and it still won’t do it, it just attempts to replay the movie again after failing to open. I even tried a factory reset and nothing. So frustrating, this player isn’t even a year old. |

SEVERAL times. FINALLY after the 10th time of unplugging it and plugging it back in it just spat the disc back out. Checked the player out with a few DVDs and blu rays to see if it would play and eject and so far it seems to be fine.
Thank you to everyone for your help. |

I tried the Panasonic code with the cover closed and with me opening it myself, literally nothing was working. I unplugged it one last time, shook it, plugged it back in and as soon as it got power it ejected the disc. The movies I tried after that all played and ejected but I’ll try watching a few movies just to make sure this was just some rare isolated thing and not the start of a bigger problem.

Yeah. I wouldn't call the player light. It's actually pretty chunky. It does have a lot of plastic on it but it doesn't feel cheap like a $100-200 player. You definitely feel you are getting something more premium.
But yeah, if you want something more in the line of receiver heft and solid build quality, go for the UB9000 if you think it's worth dropping a grand on a player. (I've always been tempted...) |

Just remember that the UB9000 is not a good DVD player. It's not the equivalent of the Oppo as far as interlaced content goes. Nowhere near.

It's not atrocious it's watchable for DVD but yeah the 203/205 has much better DVD upscaling than the UB820/UB9000. Will most people notice the difference?, probably not.

When I play PAL DVDs on my UB820 they're ok kinda watchable, but NTSC DVDs even if flagged as progressive look like a mess of jaggies. All types of DVD look better on my old Sony BD player though.

I'd say that's fairly atrocious. It should be as good as an Oppo at that price point.
