Please be a boutique licensing deal. Please don’t be the Sony blu ray color timing. Please don’t be the Sony blu ray color timing. Please don’t be the Sony blu ray color timing. Please don’t be the……. Love this flick, but there’s not a chance in hell I’m picking this up until I get to see what the color grading looks like. If it turns out aces, I’ll superglue my Umbrella and Sony blu rays together, and see how many times I can get them to skip across the lake behind my house.

Think I’m good with the current disc. This remake is okay but I’m not a huge fan of it.

How come? If you don't mind me asking

I do like this film, so a 4K is great news. Hoping they finally nail a decent presentation of the film (having owned the DVD, Twilight Time and then the Umbrella blu-ray).

I've never seen the remake.

I mean, I've seen chunks of it when it's been on TV, but I've never watched it in its entirety.

Just don't go into the lake, there might be piranhas in there!

It's pretty good. It's different enough to be it's own thing, while staying to the original for a good chunk too. I still prefer the original, but the remake is pretty fun.

Too bad we'll never see an uncut version of this. The MPAA required a few juicy bits to be snipped.

It’s fine. Well made for what it is. It just doesn’t do enough to be interesting or different from the original aside from Barbra and the atmosphere pales in comparison.

Fair enough.

I like it for the transformation of Barbra's character, who has a more meaningful character arc in it, plus Savini's FX, Tony Todd and Patricia Tallman's acting and finally the neat twist on the ending.

Omg, that's an awesome news! Still my favorite zombie movie to this day. I'm really hoping a boutique labels release this, it deserves the deluxe treatment. I'm not sure who would be more suited for it. I'd say it's a toss between Vinegar and Arrow but i'd love it if Second sight released it in the UK.
But who am i kidding, it's probably going to be a steelbook from Sony. As long as we get the original poster art, i'm in.

Why is Sony the worse option? It seems like that's what you're saying, though I might be getting it wrong. Sony will give us a solid HDR10 encode with Dobly on top, 5.1 and OG 2.0 audio, and all existing extras plus whatever this new thingy is. There's not much more that I want from a UHD release of any movie than that!

Meh, I prefer it to the original. NOTLD '68 is a genre-defining classic, don't get me wrongo, but in terms of the enjoyment I get from each it's the 1990 film that does it for me. But then I am a mark for some Patty Tallman goodness.

Erm...but Sony don't let boutiques do their own transfers of their movies, they supply the finished transfers to the boutiques. At the risk of starting all that Umbrella vs Sony shit over again, I'm fine with the Sony BD colour timing plus an HDR pass restoring the blown highlights. That'll do, zombie pig. That'll do.

The claustrophobia aspect is Not as strong in the remake. IMO.

It has a made for TV feel to it. It lacks tension. IMO.

It's not bad, but it feels watered down.

The original definitely has a spookier atmosphere for sure, I can't argue with that!

Well, with a boutique label we would get better packaging, maybe a nice booklet and probably some additional extras we might not get from Sony. I dunno, I love this movie and will obviously buy it no matter who release it but let's face it, if Vinegar syndrome or Arrow release this, it would clearly be a more definitive version and would have a much more attractive packaging than Sony will offer.

But at the end of the day, even if all we get is a regular release from Sony, as long as it has a nice slip and the original poster (and obviously a good transfer), i'll be happy.

Yeah, it's basically a 40's or 50's horror movie even though it was made in 1968. That library music, the b&w and the low budget. The remake does have better cast.

I mean, it's ok.... But notvacary or anything.
