He-he-hellloooo!!

Thank you [redacted boutique retailer name]... minty fresh and gorgeous!

Slip is as wonderful as they were with OCN!

And embossed as well...

FCE just sent out a tweet asking all retailers NOT to send out any of their titles before the street date referencing Party Girl out on the 28th

I usually pre-order from the boutique retailers, but sounds like to me FCE just wants their stock sold thru amazon if it means INDIE retailers can’t ship them out early.

Just seems pointless to pre-order.

I was going to mention the movie when Breathless was announced but I figured it was too obscure since it hasn't got a home video release since the Vestron Video VHS/Betamax/LD/CED. It was released by Atlantic Releasing in the U.S. which would put it with MGM but it appears to be with StudioCanal now:
https://www.studiocanal.com/title/aphrodite-1982/

If you are looking for a copy of Aphrodite, look for a Vestron Video release that says "Complete, Unedited And Unrated Version" on the front cover. Vestron Video released both R-Rated and Unrated versions. The VHS shown in the Fun City Editions tweet is the R-Rated version. This is the Unrated version:

A blu-ray release of La Femme Publique (1984) would be great too.

Saw that as well. Seems kind of weird tbh. I was thinking someone must have complained. I'm still not ordering from Amazon with the way they package, and not from MVD as long as the price is $39.95

Hmmm.

Interesting tweet there from FCE.

I like Breathless, but will probably pass on this edition as the Shout is fully serviceable to me.
Seeing it in the theater in '83, I definitely developed the hots for Kaprisky. I've long been aware of Aphrodite, and almost certainly rented it at some point, but I can't recall a thing about it. Would definitely get it if anyone released it on Bd.

I don't listen to commentaries much, but was listening to the one on the La Femme Publique DVD recently. The director was not enchanted with her, to put it kindly.

Yep here's the tweet...

https://twitter.com/FunCityEdition/s...7Ctwgr%5Etweet

And frankly... I think it's kinda petty to be that way.

Independent boutiques have been sliding customers releases early for years. And nobody ever says anything. It's kind of an unwritten thing.

"Level playing field"?? What does that even mean? What are we playing the lottery or something?

Now I'm sorry I posted my haul... I feel like I'm gonna get someone in trouble. And I shouldn't have to feel that way. I say this because, to me, it's awfully suspect that I posted my haul on here around 12:30pm EST and less than an hour later they Tweet that... considering this thread is one where an insider (the owner in this case) actively monitors the activity and interacts with members.

Who gives a damn if someone gets a film a week or two early...

I agree with PowellPressburger...

Ah yes, level the playing field with... Amazon and Target.

Arrow pulled a similar move with Shawscope Vol 2, I think GHV was shipping it earlier than street date initially.

You'd think a small indie label like FCE would be cognizant and understanding towards small indie boutiques... and let things like this slide.

After all... aren't we all trying to help keep the little guys afloat??

I just don't get it...

I understand Arrow pulling a move like this... especially since they are now owned by The Huts.

But FCE... c'mon man...

It also seems to be completely pulled off that site. Usually when they are OOS they leave the listing up...Oh well, either way I still support that shop #1 as they have always been great to their customers

Yeah, I wouldn't put it against jah about issuing a "request" via social media - let's not forget this is his first time with a release outside OCN's distribution, who I would assume would have dealt with anything like this - so he's probably more exposed from a legal standpoint. Let him focus on what's important and issue requests when he deems it necessary.

It may not matter much to some, but I assume some enterprising customers would see an early delivery from any retailer as an opportunity to cancel with whomever they've pre-ordered with and order from said retailer issuing early copies. I doubt that's a legitimate widespread problem, but alas.

Yep... it sure is Sir!

I just followed the link of my pre-order... and it leads to a 404 Page No Found

I cannot believe this!

I love that retailer (who for this conversation we all know but will remain nameless)... I give them my business all the time. And will continue to do so.

This is really a shame... I'm sorry...

I agree with you Doc, but I think we can possibly assume it was an MVD thing and not FCE thing. I could be wrong, but since they are the distributor, they are the ones that control the flow of the item. It is petty and will not help pre-orders at ALL, like PP mentions. Dumb to do, but is probably in the agreement they have with MVD.

I totally get what you're saying... but "I doubt that's a legitimate widespread problem" is the most poignant part of your statement here...

This whole situation seems to be really blown out of proportion...

Indie boutiques often release things slightly before street date... and have been doing so for years...

Hell... Mike from Grindhouse Video has put a disclosure on all of his pre-orders for years that reads:

Quote:
All pre-orders will be shipped as soon as they are in stock. Sometimes this is 1-2 weeks early, sometimes this might be a few days after the street date.
This isn't a new thing...

Yeah... you could be right...

And not only will it not help pre-orders... it's not gonna help Indie Boutique Retailers either...

This only hurts FCE and the Indie retailers.

I have no incentive on pre-ordering if I can just drop in an order at amazon days before release since I won’t get an early delivery from a indie shop since they can’t ship early then we’ll have to wait even longer

It’s BS

Got my pre-order of Party Girl today, but I’m saving it for this weekend.

I’ve already pre-ordered Breathless thru VinSyn in my sub order

So that’s my last pre-order for a FCE title.

For sure it hurts the small guys... and I'm a little hurt and frustrated too...

But one thing to keep in mind my friend... if you order from Amazon... you're not guaranteed a slip... you will also have your item shipped in a bubble mailer... so if it does come with a slip... it will probably be pretty banged up.

Also something else to keep in mind... it is not the fault of any of the indie boutique retailers in question here today... they're just doing business like they always have... and they do it well.

It's just questionable decision making and micro-managing from the label... I don't think any of us should stop supporting the boutiques over this... I'm still going to order FCE from where I always order it... because I want those shops to get my business... not the big pigs like Target, Amazon, Wal-mart, Best Buy, etc. etc.

But I get your frustration... I do...

It just doesn't seem like an issue worth pursuing to me...

I dunno... I don't have the inside info that jah has...

Obviously the people running the damn label that released the movie give a damn. Why are you being so dense?

As to the rest of it: Jesus, get over yourself. "I shouldn't have to feel this way!" So your little feelings are more important than those of the folks going through the time, money, and labor to actually restore and release these great underseen films? Your feelings (feeling excited that you got this title so early, and then coming in here to post/humblebrag about it to feel special) are what started this whole thing in the first place.

You keep talking about boutiques and "the small guys" as if it only refers to the retailer. FCE themselves are very much a boutique operation, and the definition of "the small guys". What about what they want? Do they not have the right to request their titles be released on the release date that they've chosen?

And just because some smaller retailers let stuff go early, does not mean that they should or were ever supposed to. There's also a difference between a retailer shipping your item a week ahead of release so you get it a couple days early (which, you're right, is perfectly normal), and this egregious 2+ weeks early nonsense. I used to snag the occasional album or movie from indie record stores before release date, and they stopped doing it years ago because they got their wrists slapped by the labels for breaking street dates.

You and Powell's entitlement is showing, and your arrogance in particular is off the charts. And yes, you probably did get Orbit in trouble for coming in here snitching. No harm in mentioning them now since the damage is done, and the page has been removed from their site. You also put an extra spotlight on Mike/Grindhouse, so congrats on that too, genius

Maybe keep it to yourself next time, or at least leave names out of it.

By the way... I reached out to Orbit via their chat...

Nobody's "in trouble"...

He said he's "been chatting with Jon on and off all day" and "It's their first non VS release I think so they are being careful with it."

So Animatic33 was probably right when he said it's probably a cautionary measure...
