Really debating between picking up individual films vs just snagging what's gettable now.

rn I have Criterion's Seven Samurai and the Ran steelbook that came out a couple years ago.

which movies have gettable blus with english subs other than the Criterion ones?

Japan has almost all of his titles, but don't have English subs.

ah sick i had found Imprint's page for that i think but it was sold out maybe? good to know it's gettable for a not-ludicrous price!

i guess even if criterion does a box set this may not be in it if they dont have the rights, right?

i'm making my way through his filmog and loving it so much that i wanna buy a lot of these but also kinda wanna hedge my bets wrt a future box set if it includes otherwise-unavailable stuff

Criterion does have Dersu Uzala, and it was mentioned they were restoring it, but that was like 5 years ago at this point? It's been awhile. It might already be restored for all we know, and it's just being held back for a boxset, but that's purely speculation.

I can't even remember the last time Criterion did a Kurosawa film.

They're sitting on lots of titles, like Stray Dog, which they control, but have never even upgraded from DVD to BD.
