Nice, I held off on the Universal disc because I felt thr Arrow blu ray was still overall the better presentation.

While it's a little disappointing they haven't upgraded the Ulysses cut, if Arrow have used their own restoration as a basis for the theatrical UHD then i'll be all over this. Universal's 4K presentation was a hot mess.

Hmmm... There is a solo release of the theatrical from Universal and the existing BD set from Arrow with the other cuts on BD. Unless upgrading the other cuts to 4K, this might be a hard sell.


I thought the Uni had better colors than the Arrow and yes there was more detail than the Arrow BD. Just look at less than a second at anything with a net (tons of them here) and you saw way more detail on the Uni disc. However, I posted long ago here that during one explosion, the Uni broke up into a ton of blocks. That could be fixed here.

Exciting! But if it’s the theatrical that’s just in 4K I might wait for the standard edition and slide it into the Blu-Ray case.

Grrr…another limited edition that’s now practically worthless as there’s an identical UHD version, which I don’t want to have to sell for peanuts then buy again. Steelbook or regular version of just the theatrical UHD please, though this is assuming Arrow have done the 4K from their own transfer and aren’t just porting across the existing Universal 4K.

Still, at least this bodes well for Das Ding getting a boutique 4K upgrade. Need dat 4.1 audio

You read my mind, they're redoing Waterworld, so redo The Thing 4K and give us no DNR optical shots, original sound mixes and maybe Atmos track instead of DTS:X with awesome special features and tat edition. I'm guessing The Thing 4K might be a UK release since Arrow has never done a US release of The Thing, but regardless. I hope they do it.

Woohoo made the right move dumping my LE Blu set some time back,.I knew arrow wouldn't be able to resist this. Question is how will color timing look vs the universal 4K. IIRC I liked the color grading of the 4K Uni better than the arrow blu

Yup, instant, deeply disappointing pass for me. I will never, ever watch anything but the Ulysses Cut for the rest of my life. Tremendous fumble on Arrow’s part here.
