Default Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2 (or The Whole Bloody Affair) from Criterion

I know we already have Vol. 1 and 2 released by Disney/Buena Vista and according to the reviews up here the AQ and VQ are quite good, but it is by the time Criterion should've released the two volumes (or preferably the Whole Bloody Affair) loaded with extras and new 4K transfers.

Can we expect this coming anytime soon?

Couple things...

The Whole Bloody Affair is rated NC-17. Disney has a no NC-17 rule for all labels.

Also, Kill Bill is owned by Miramax, and the rights are now with Paramount. Unless they license it out, Paramount will release at least the two movies in their R-rated, US theatrical form.

The movies, while shot on film, were finished with a 2K DI. Native 4K is not possible for these movies. They can be upscaled, they can get HDR and DV, but that’s it. Same goes for The Whole Bloody Affair. And knowing Tarantino, they’ll most likely only have the theatrical 5.1 tracks, because he doesn’t believe in overhauling the sound.

As for the special features, Tarantino himself said that the DVDs weren’t the end of the line, and he would eventually oversee a box set with remastered transfers and more special features. (The closest we got was the Best Buy slipcover, the OG Blu-rays, and the various repackagings of those discs. As for those discs themselves, they’re truly perfect. Native 2K ports of the 2K DI, plus PCM 5.1 tracks of the original 5.1 mix. There may be some differences in the QT trailer reel on V1 between the tape, the DVD, and the Blu-ray, but that’s it. They’re stunning even 15 years later.

The Whole Bloody Affair is one of my most wanted discs ever, so let’s hope it one day happens.

The Whole Bloody Affair is owned by Harvey Weinstein himself (or possibly both brothers), not by Miramax.

I guess he expects QT to grovel before him like he expected Kevin Smith to.
