With the combination of it being an expensive series on HBO and JKR being a mega toxic brand this’ll be lucky to get two seasons before it is cancelled.

Liked Harry Potter when I was a child. Nowadays, beyond watching the films from time to time, I don't find it that interesting. After reading LotR or ASOIAF, I find the writing in Harry Potter to be mediocre and quite mean spirited. If this is more faithful to the books then I think it's going to be bad. In addition, good luck with casting different actors for Snape and McGonagall.

I was under the impression that WB owns the collective book rights, while J.K. Rowling retains all the publishing rights, including the characters...so as such, nothing could be done without her involvement. I'm personally surprised that anybody would want to go near the franchise again so soon, since the last Fantastic Beasts underperformed (I really liked it, though).

There's a massive amount of material from the books that the films cut out, and I'd be interested to seeing some of it onscreen.
Plus, I like Harry Potter but I don't love it, so I'm not so attached to the franchise that I'm not too bothered about seeing other actors playing the characters. Last edited by Krynoid-Man; 04-04-2023 at 11:11 AM. |

New show announced based on existing IP
Internet "hard pass, gonna bomb, won't watch it, what a load of crap, cant they do anything original" Same internet still watches it anyway. Seems the same with every announcement at the moment. |

Could be interesting.
Lots of scenes, that would flesh out some of the characters (Neville Longbottom visiting his parents, in St. Mungo’s, Filtches background etc.) Hopefully, more in the style of Prisoner of Askaban, rather than the first two movies, which I never really cared for. |

And yes, HUGE problems casting new people for iconic roles like that. There are so many problems with this right off the bat. |

Only in online echo chambers, apparently. In spite of a an unprecedented online boycott campaign, and even major gaming sites taking part in shunning the game, Hogwarts Legacy made almost a billion dollars - in the first two weeks. It's on its way to being the biggest selling game of the year, and one of the most profitable games of all time.
The timing of this leaking isn't coincidence. The massive success of Hogwarts Legacy proved that corporations don't need to be scared of manufactured online backlash, and that the consumers they are actually selling to either don't care, or aren't even aware of it. It really was a turning point in them realizing what was already starting to become glaringly obvious - online outrage and those that live in the middle of it aren't actually your customers to begin with, and of those who are, they are statistically irrelevant. I'm sure the online hate campaign about this show is already beginning, but just like Hogwarts Legacy, it's just going to prove the old adage of "there is no such thing as bad publicity" - they will keep this new series in the headlines for the next couple of years until it is released. |

Personally, I think the general malaise around the FB films was more to do with those films than the wider franchise. I wasn’t overly enamoured with the first one and the next two didn’t improve things dramatically.
The marketing around this will no doubt be insane so I’m sure it’ll start off strongly but that will only be maintained with decent writing and performances, and until we know more about the creatives and talent lined up it could go either way. I’ll give it a chance, expect the worst and hope to be pleasantly surprised. |

I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but the books are definitely better than the movies. The movies left a lot out and it didn't do a good job with Ginny especially...her and Harry together felt awkwardly forced in the movies. I can see how this could be good, but I'm sure it's going to be full of race/gender/sexual orientation swaps. I'd almost bet my bank account that Hermoine will be a black actress.

Here is her description in the books In the Harry Potter books, the brilliant Hermione Granger is described as having frizzy, untamable dark hair, brown eyes, and protruding teeth, but more often is defined by her intellect and devotion to her friends Never once is it mentioned if she is white or black so guess what does not matter. |

People are forgetting that part of the success of the originals was that the unpolished child leads were supplemented by the greatest actors of Britain. These are some major British actors who never starred in HP and thus could be eligible for a reboot.
Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz, Vanessa Redgrave, Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Anthony Hopkins, Ian McKellen, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Patrick Stewart, Jeremy Irons, Michael Caine, Julie Andrews, Kristin Scott Thomas, Charlotte Rampling, Emily Watson, Ben Kingsley, Keira Knightley, Charles Dance, Tom Wilkinson, Daniel Craig, James McAvoy, Sally Hawkins, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Ruth Wilson, and Derek Jacobi. Kate Winslet was the original choice for the Grey Lady in Deathly Hallows Part 2 but her agent didn't think she would be interested so he rejected the role without telling her. Hugh Grant was supposed to play Gilderoy Lockhart but had to pull out because of a prior commitment. Ian McKellen turned down playing Dumbledore after Richard Harris' passing out of respect for him. Lucius Malfoy - Jason Isaacs Can anyone play him better... Snape - Rickman need I say more Hagrid - Coltrane will be tuff to beat Draco Malfoy - Felton was damn near perfect, towards the end when he was conflicted and in pain was played very well. Dumbledore was replaced already and Harris while good changed some of the way major scenes should have played out, key point Goblet of Fire. When he confronted Harry in the books he was calm. In the movies he went nuts. |

"Hermione’s white face was sticking out from behind a tree." "Mr. Malfoy's eyes had returned to Hermione, who went slightly pink, but stared determinedly back at him." In the Half Blood Prince, after she gets hit in the eye: "Hermione sitting at the kitchen table in great agitation, while Mrs. Weasley tried to lessen her resemblance to half a panda." In case you don't know what a panda looks like, they have white faces with black around their eyes. And it matters because they need to stick to the original creator's intentions...plus I'm tired of the double standard. Last edited by terp_fan99; 04-04-2023 at 08:21 PM. |
