My #1 Spielberg is Jaws. Always and forever. It's also my fav movie of all time so yeah. Lol. Def Jaws.

Duel would certainly make my top 5 though.

Tbh I've just never been a massive Spielberg guy. I think it's because my dad wasn't a big fan and we had very few of his films on VHS. Even the likes of Jaws and E.T... I saw them like once on TV when I was little and it was only years later that I properly re-watched them.

Love Jurassic Park, though.

I guess the original version of the film will come out around the same time as the original Star Wars films are released. I'll stick with my Blu-ray until they cough up the original cut.

Something happened along the way with me with Spielberg that I just can't put my finger on. I love "Duel", and "Jaws" is among my favorites. I like many of his films all the way up until around "Munich". The only ones I really don't care for out of that era are "Hook", "The Lost World: Jurassic Park", and "The Terminal". "1941" is a mixed bag. Other than that, I like or love most of his stuff until around 2005.

Then, starting with "Crystal Skull" and the utterly forgettable "Tintin", I seem to find it genetically impossible to care about anything he does. I can't quite explain what happened. Even his "Lincoln", which was in development for many years and I looked forward to, wound up being like watching paint dry, for me. Otherwise, I have not been able to care about or like anything new he's done.

It's likely more changes in me than him, I suppose. But, I still like most of his earlier stuff, I don't know.

Anyway, I think "Duel" is like a literal dry-run for "Jaws" (they make a great double bill), and I've always liked both of them.

Yeah both Jaws and Jurassic Park were two movies I watched constantly growing up. Still have my VHS tapes. If I'm being honest I'd have to say Spielberg is probably the guy who really got me to love movies.

That being said, while I think he's a brilliant storyteller and filmmaker, I do think he tends to direct on autopilot sometimes and occasionally his films come off kind of cookie cutter (Janusz Kaminsi as DP, John Williams scoring, etc). But then again he's sorta responsible for that method of filmmaking coming into existence and making it popular (whether you believe that to be a good thing or a bad thing) so I can sorta forgive that. But yeah, love the guy. And he still makes great films. Not a lot of directors that got their start during the Hollywood Renaissance can say the same.

Yeah, Hook, 1941 and The Lost World have never really done it for me. I think 1941 is actually bloody awful. I would never be able to sit through it again. Munich is fantastic, and the last several films he's put out have been really great IMO. Bridge of Spies might be the best movie he's made in the past 20 years. Also really liked The Post, Ready Player One, West Side Story and The Fabelmans.

Yes I hate it so much!!! It has no budget (which is the ultimate factor in deciding a good movie) and has inconsistent qualities. Steven Spielberg didn't learn how to make a proper movie until Catch Me if You Can many many years later.
