Default Walker, Texas Ranger in HD on Roku Channel

As the title states, the first 3 seasons of Walker, Texas Ranger, remastered in HD is on The Roku Channel (Link).

First episode ("One Riot One Ranger", both parts) is "upconverted" SD but the rest appear to be newly remastered from original film elements. I believe the show (at least S2+) was on 16mm so it does appear a little grainy and the low streaming bitrate (~5.4Mbps) doesn't help but it is definitely an upgrade from SD/DVDs.

Hopefully this means a Blu-Ray release in the near future as it seems to be something Paramount/CBS may do given their recent releases.

I loved this show during its original run, and I still watch reruns of it on occasion. Chuck Norris was perfect for Walker, and the supporting cast was great too. I was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Clarence Gilyard; he was just as much a key to the success of Walker as Chuck himself, in my opinion.

All 9 seasons are on Peacock in HD now - widescreen with the exception of the first episode.

Are they widescreen on Roku?

It looks like they got fresh scans from the 16mm film masters and re-done titles. I don't know why the pilot film didn't get it, but it should have been done, dang nabbit. This show is what bingeing TV is all about.

I wonder why the left One Riot, One Ranger in full screen. Did you notice any cropping or stretching of the picture in the widescreen showings?

The footage I checked looked like zoom and crop to me. Since the entire show was 1.33:1 and not widescreen-safe as far as we know, it makes sense to do it that way.

It’s upscaled, they presumably don’t have film for it.

It seems cropped yes, unsure if there’s any new information on the sides.

Quick comparison. Mainly opened up. Some cropping on the bottom of the frame but you can't see it due to my lazy screens. Seasons 1 and 6 both have the same rough framing (ie it doesn't get better or worse as the series goes on)

Season 1

Season 6

This may not be the case for every scene but I checked the most important one of the series.

Nice! I might have to get Paramount+ again just to watch this. Haven't seen it in years. I hope we get some HD Dr. Quinn. Not sure who actually owns it. I think A&E did, but I remember it airing along side Walker back in the day.

Exclamation Walker, Texas Ranger complete series???

Does Walker, Texas Ranger ever have a chance of getting the complete series on blu-ray anytime soon, cause I do not want to have to buy the DVD series and then it does come out on blu right away… is there a timeline if anyone knows that it will come out on blu if it does… timing is essential with these kinda of series’?

Walker could be released on Blu-Ray, via VEI, who has released other classic and contemporary CBS productions, but I have no idea if that is in the works. Apart from that, Paramount could certainly release it themselves.

VEI has a terrible habit, of cramming too many episodes onto their discs, in attempt to save money. As a result, the episodes look like total crap.

I second what you say here about Clarence Gilyard. To this day, I still love watching him give us Ranger James Trivette. I love when he was shown in his jeans, cowboy hat, and a tucked in T-shirt and his smile at the end of the episode named No Way Out couldn't have been better when he walked into CD's place and everyone called out "Happy Birthday!" to him.

God bless you and his family and the remaining cast members always!!!

Holly

This looks glorious, to me anyways. I don't like the cropping of the first screencap, but I'm hoping for some Blu-ray release in the near future and reading this thread has given me hope, at least.
