Default Dunk & Egg: Game of Thrones prequel greenlit at HBO

https://tvline.com/2023/04/12/game-o...-hedge-knight/

Quote:
A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros,” the official logline reads. “A young, naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall” (aka Dunk) “and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

I prefer this to the Aegon's Conquest series.

Now House of the Dragon’s a raging success, HBO is absolutely gonna glutinously kill off the overall franchise by oversaturating it.

Having HOTD run for a few years, with no other GOT shows, gives GRRM time to get those last two books written and time for HBO to plan better.

So this takes place at the same time as House of the Dragon?

No. It's approximately a century later and a century before Game of Thrones.

No. Think of this show as The Hound and Arya in season 4 but probably better written.

Oh man that will turn people off. The show does not even have dragons like HoD so to not have any supernatural stuff to it will make it feel like a Knights drama or something like that not much GoT feel to that.

That's why I loved the book. It's not about gods, kings, princesses, or whatever. It's about a hedge knight, local lords, and serfs/farmers. It's smaller scale and gives you a peak into the real Westeros.

But it leads to King's Landing and the Iron Throne and probably some sad stuff in the end.

This. It's overall a smaller story and doesn't need to be some seven season epic.

I think this seems to be the direction HBO is going with the franchise, and it's not without merit. They are even talking HoD only being like a 3-4 season thing. Their bets are best hedged (no pun intended) on making multiple, shorter series. It's beneficial for a lot of reasons - everything from keeping cast costs under control to not having a decade building up and the perceived reputation of the series resting on the final few episodes.

I'm excited for this - out of the possibilities, it's one I would have chosen - I much prefer it to the other proposed series about the landing of the Targs, but if I said why, it would be a spoiler for this one.

I of course most of all want the sequel show - and I'll even deal with it being Snow centric. Though what I really want is Arya's Voyages...I'll take what I can get, in hopes that I get further adventures from those who survived GoT.
