Japan Valkyria Chronicles 2

is now officially "introduced" in the latest Famitsu.

I find somewhat .. weird .. that the only platform mentionned is ... the PSP.
Let's hope that a PS3 version is also in the tubes.

Moved to PSP subforum..

The characters aren't quite as unique in style as they were in VC but enough elements of the original are there to immediately identify.

3D gameplay looks good from the blurry fullsize photo. Long draw distance for a PSP game assuming you can run right up to what you're seeing. I'm interesting to see how the canvas style and overall 3D quality translates to PSP in clearer direct-feed screens.

Why is this a PSP game?

Not that I care that much since I own a PSP, but you'd think they'd at least make a version for the platform it started on...

Im just glad sega hasn't given up on the franchise. I still have the Ps3 game here unplayed, havent had time to actually sink my teeth into it, and i already got all the DLC for it!

I just beat the first one too!
I'm happy there is a sequel, but really? PSP? I have one and all...but come on. HD > Portability.

Why?

Look at Assassins Creed, the direct sequel to the original appears to be on the PSP, while a whole new story has gone to PS3/360.

Changing to the PSP is a very good thing as it will give the brand a much better chance of success in Japan, so far VC has sold around 200k (including the budget price release) in that region and the same in the RoW. While 400k is ahead of expectations for the game it is not what it deserved, a PSP release gives the brand a chance to hit > 400k in Japan alone.

I would understand a PSP spin-off, but why a direct sequel?

Seems rather rude to slap your PS3 fanbase who went out of their way to buy the game in the face of very stiff competition in the marketplace last holiday season.

I think that a slap in the face would of been to make it Xbox 360 exclusive, not coming out on the PS3's sister device.

Well the problem is they didn't buy it. Like I said while 400k is above expectations, the bar was set so low Sega were doing the game an injustice. It's not like Sega have ruled out another PS3 VC game, the only thing they have done is to try and raise the profile of the brand; the anime series worked well (57k for a budget re-release on 145k original is amazing!). Moving to the PSP temporarily will do the series a lot of good. For once I agree with a decision by Sega!

The gameplay mechanics will be the same as the original hopefully with a few new additions so all that we will lose is the HD graphics (which I'm not too bothered by, sure it's nice, but completely non-essential to the game/story). Big deal. I would rather see this game move 1m WW on PSP with no HD than do 400-500k on PS3.

Indeed. Moving it to PSP isn't that big of a deal anyway, most PS3 users that bought this game probably have a PSP (no one outside of the core will have bought this game).

I wonder if a Trophy Patch would be in the works for Valkyria Chronicles 1 around the time that 2 comes out.

Eh, I guess I'm just puzzled by the decision to move to a handheld platform. The missions in Valkyria Chronicles often took extended amounts of time to complete - 30 minutes+. While you can indeed freeze a game in place on the PSP just by shutting it off, that's not really conducive to quality strategy gaming.

I agree it'll sell more on the PSP, particularly in Japan. But the gameplay just feels like an ill fit for the platform.

If we do see a Valkyria Chronicles 3 on PS3, though, I guess all would be forgiven. I'm going to really miss that pencil-sketch look, that's for sure.

There's an anime?? Is it good?

Also, I'm gonna get this altho I too would rather see this on ps3.

The next ps3 version better have trophies. There's so much crap to do in the first one and I beat it 3 times and there's still so much you can do. Trophies would be a nice incentive to COMPLETE the game.

Who knows really? It might because it's still getting dlc so trophy support is not totally out of the question(though at this point it's not as likely).
