No, he was never supposed to be anything. He had 4 lines and six whole minutes of screen time in the whole trilogy.

Return of the Jedi... Still the second best Wars movie.™

Agree that the lack of premium format is a bummer, especially with Disney bothering to unveil this at SWC last week. Even Rogue One got that re-release last year in IMAX.

I'm hoping that means 'Sisu' gets the Dolby/IMAX slot on the 28th at my local AMC instead.

I’ll still go see ROTJ
From what I remember hearing at the time, that dcp of Empire was still from the old 2011 master (which in turn was based off the even older 2004 hd master) even though the 2019/2020 4k remaster was out there, streamable from home at the push of a button.

I’m curious if this dcp of Jedi will at least be from the 4k or if they’re just saving that altogether for the grand Dolby Cinema / Imax / 3D re-release of all the films in a few years.

I assume this will be the Special Edition. Regal near me isn't showing it but AMC is in a standard digital format. Would've been nice in a premium format. I'm hoping that for Star Wars' 50th anniversary they re-release the original trilogy in their original theatrical versions in Dolby Cinema and IMAX and heck, even a 3D option! (One can hope, right?)
Wouldn’t surprise me.

There's a reason I bought the VHS, DVD, Original uncut trilogy on DVD, bluray, 4K, redeemed digital codes and then there's all the packaging, three original movies, original trilogy movies plus prequel. orignial trilogy uncut movies, steelbooks of the original 9, Target Special Editions, 4K with slipcovers, the Skywalker Saga box with new remastered blurays only etc.
Understood - I hear ya. Ive paid my dues per se also with buying up a ton of star wars content.

Boba Fett is a stupidly popular character so I hear ya on that.

But the rest of your post is beyond absurd. Ya better go watch the Ruse of Stupidwalker and the rest of the lame sequels again....

Bit strange that someone puts Rise of Skywalker above Return of the Jedi.

I don’t hate the sequel trilogy, I’m just a bit ambivalent about it.

I think it did a disservice to the legacy characters and there was no excuse for not having an overall plot worked out from the outset, instead of doing a baton race. Lucas had an excuse for changing things around because he didn’t know Star Wars was going to be the success it was, and he still delivered a more coherent trilogy.

El Capitán Theater is going all out with a Fan Event and showings of the entire OT!

It ain't the OT if they're the SE. Might as well pop in those 4KXX movies and save some dough.

I’m sure they’re gonna be. Those are the definitive versions as far as Lucasfilm cares.

Rise of Skywalker is way way worse than Return of the Jedi and is definitely the worst. Rotj has its problems but is one of the better third films from a series and certainly the best out of star wars but revenge of the sith is pretty good.

I think you said it well, though I really do hate the ST and almost everything about it. It's lazy, trashes the OT, and has horrible character development. I did like the Droid.

It is always interesting to see how people view Lucas' choices for one set of movie versus others. Then there is the is the idea that he wanted Marion to be 11 or 12 when she first meet Jones.

That runtime is a few minutes short for the SE. Let the speculation commence!

I think they did a reasonable job of salvaging the train wreck that The Last Jedi left of the sequel trilogy and the difficulties arising from the death of Carrie Fisher, but it was by no means successful.

Rey’s story arc should have been properly thought out from the beginning.

Luke should have been given a better send off, and I’m sure it’s said that Lucas intended Luke to die in the third film which could have been a better passing of the torch to Rey.

Not that Lucas has a great track record as of late but I'm sure it would be better than what we got. I didn't follow the whole thing but didn't lucus want to do something different and move on past Skywalker?

I'm actually surprised Disney is re-releasing rotj as they've tried so hard to kill it. They even fought Mando's team for bringing in Luke.

I will echo what has been said already, it's unfortunate this was not the unaltered version.

How could they possibly kill Jedi with it on Disney+?

Bruh, it's 2023. Not 1983. Get over it.

From what I’ve read it would have followed Luke and Leia’s kids.

Luke would have stayed until the final film and then die in that.

Palpatine was dead, he was never going to come back.

I’ve seen reports it was going to go into more detail about the Force, the Whills and possibly midi-chlorians. I might have misremembered this but I think I read somewhere that midi-chlorians were something that the Whills used.

The original novelisation of Star Wars had a prologue which was said to have been taken from the Journal of the Whills so presumably he was going to go back to that idea.

Might not have gone down well with fans who hated the idea of midi-chlorians but it was probably more original that what Disney did, and Lucas was always very good at world building.

How is it that the question "Is it the Original version?" is still being asked?

Lucasfilm made it clear so many times that the Special Editions are the standard version now. (I'm not happy about it either, but you gotta accept it at this point. They're letting people get the very easy to find 4k scans with no legal retaliation).

Like....if it was the original, it would be a huge HUGE deal and they know that. They would market it very clearly.

So why do people keep asking? The Special edition is 26 years old at this point.

"kill" Jedi? But they re-released Empire for it's 40th. Why would they not do the same for ROTJ? What Youtube crackpot told you this?
