Since SF is releasing the Chucky films (One of the big franchises) in July, what do you guys think they have in store for the Fall?

The Jaws sequels are likely out of bounds, and with 2 coming to 4K UHD it may be that Universal themselves do 3 and 4. You sense that the big acquisitions will come from the Warner and Paramount deals. In terms of films new to Blu-ray, WB doesn't have many obvious high profile titles left to licence, save perhaps Xtro (nothing else screams CE, though there remain dozens of candidates for a regular release). Paramount has some, but mainly via the Miramax holdings. The Crow would be huge. Last edited by BarnDoor; 05-01-2023 at 08:38 AM. |

Tales From The Crypt TV series Blu-ray box set would be a huge release but highly doubt it ever happens.

I think the barriers surrounding so-called "big franchises" have either come down or are nearly down, as evidenced by Universal letting go of the Chucky films even in the midst of a successful TV series reboot. Some series are still off the table, like Jaws as BarnDoor mentioned, but I think now there's a better chance than ever of the Elm Street series being lent out. I don't know how much the Warner and Discovery mergers may play into it but I'm of the opinion that this may help Shout negotiate more successfully for the franchise now. As these studios become more like giant global conglomerates, they'll be less interested in film legacies and history as an art and more interested in making money by exploiting their libraries to make money any way they can. This obviously hasn't worked at Disney but look at Lionsgate. They are now licensing where before they probably didn't even take phone calls.

I can honestly see Scream and Paramount/Warner release the films on 4K soon (plus we'd get an IMPROVED edition of the first film on 4K, sorry Paramount). Other franchises I can see them releasing: -Tremors -Night of The Demons -Witchboard -The Howling -Dracula 2000 -Westworld Last edited by Nailwraps; 05-02-2023 at 04:36 AM. |

I think Miramax only has the COTC series beginning with the third film. The films aren't great but they're fun as heck and many feature big future stars. It's always fun to spot them in these movies. I'm a fan of all of the films on your list except Dracula, Highlander and Faculty.

I've never seen The Burning, but I've always been interested because of the involvement of Tom Savini and Rick Wakeman.
I see that this is co-written by Harvey Weinstein...when it was released on blu from SF it was probably before his legal troubles. Was he featured in any of the previously produced special features? |
