Try contacting UpdateTV and Stereo (located near Vaughan mills) or Audio Excellence (Markham). They are two of several dealers that I consult for for HT design and AV calibration.

On my way home from Friday's test I stopped at Best Buy to use a $5 reward certificate and I acquired this lighthearted piece of fluff:

This side trip sapped what was left of my energy and I fell asleep for a good part of the rest of the ride home. This nodding off like an old codger is happening more and more. When I get tired, it comes on sudden and out I go like a toy suddenly unplugged.

More (lengthy) news behind spoilers:

[Show spoiler]After months of trying, I am finally being screened for possible acceptance into a drug trial for Onpattro (Patisiran). I return to the hospital in St. Louis on the 10th to be tested to see if I am still strong enough for this treatment.

Onpattro is administered by IV transfusion every three weeks over a four hour session. It is a gene silencer drug that reduces production of the protein transthyretin by up to 80%. My transthyretin misfolds due to a genetic mutation forming amyloid fibrils that are responsible for damaging my heart and other areas of my body.

Because Onpattro suppresses transthyretin, it will make me vitamin A deficient. I will have to take large doses of vitamin A to compensate.

Onpattro requires a pre-treatment with four other drugs in order to reduce its potential side effects. Even the pre-treatment drugs may cause their own list of side effects. Among the most concerning of these side effects is that my vision could be seriously compromised (cataracts and glaucoma). There are many more risks, like increased susceptibility to infection, but anything that can damage my eyesight is alarming.

The potential benefits, though, are substantial. Onpattro not only reduces production of the faulty protein that causes my disease, but it has shown in some patients an ability to reverse damage done to the heart itself and to reverse damage done to the gastrointestinal systems.

I have been having lots of digestive problems for over a month now. I have trouble swallowing anything, even liquids, and I am plagued with nausea for the first half of every day. I feel full most of the time making eating even more difficult. I am also deficient in Vitamin D and I have to take prescription strength doses of it. Everything digestive related is now problematic and I have another series of tests scheduled to try and figure out what can be done about it.

My stamina, hinted at above, has worsened. Just walking to my mailbox feels like I am trying to ride a bike up a very steep hill. My legs just turn to lead. Speaking of bikes, I am no longer allowed to ride mine; it is too hard on my heart.

Despite all of these difficulties, getting a chance to join the Onpattro clinical trial is my best, and only, hope short of a heart transplant at prolonging my life. If you read this far, thank you, and please wish me luck on the 10th.

Hoping and praying for the ‘reverse damage’ possibility.

Seeing Guardians 3 tomorrow in Dolby Cinema. The DC screenings at my theater have had awful showtimes that have not worked with my schedule. Tomorrow finally works out. Now I gotta figure out schedules for Across the Spiderverse next month.

Thanks, bizarre thing is I avoided getting it for two years even though I was working, as it was meant to be easing, I got it multiple times within a year. This is the second time this year now.

It’s pretty much touched most families by this point, obviously my sister being the most serious example in my case.

Keep safe guys, it’s here to stay.

BJ's Wholesale Club Disney removing content from streaming

Disney will be yanking content from streaming as it rethinks its costs and strategy

https://deadline.com/2023/05/disney-...nk-1235362374/

Quote - Pulling content off the service goes hand in hand with making less of it, or, as CEO Bob Iger put it on the call, “getting much more surgical about what we make.”

Golly, would be swell if this streaming non sense was profitable. I bet most folks think it's a booming business not one being actively destroyed.

Sounds like it’s going to be less value for money. I expect more cheap reality tv and ‘making of’ docs. Reality shows maybe games and quizzes with contestants competing in challenges to win merchandise or such like.

What a shit show. Still, they might now be able to meet the fabled ‘profit just around the corner’ scenario. (In 2029 or so)

The concept of "I never lost access to a digital movie" does not really apply to online movie services like Vudu or streaming.

Many examples of things being pulled from both.

Disney+ Lost total of 4 MILLION subscribers in last 3 months.
Solution - Lets remove content and raise prices.

(If they start cracking down on people who setup accounts for the kids .... Then I think Netflix is actually making all their decisions.)

I have to change horses here. I used to feel like physical media was in danger from streaming but now I just have to feel sorry for all the suckers who thought this streaming business was something that would actually be profitable. I can't feel anything but pity for them now. Some lessons are tough.

Well, I hsve certainly beat discs drum, as have most of us in here!

We keep the faith. Streaming Studios starting to realise it now too. I (we) could have told them years ago!

Instead of reality tv, I wish the likes of Netflix would shoot some one-location dramas. Being restricted sometimes brings out the best in creatives. Think of all the great stuff that has been shot in one mostly one house, room or location. Shiva Baby, Cube, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Paranormal Activity, R.E.C, The Conjuring, Rear Window, Buried, Phone Booth, Saw, 12 Angry Men, Lifeboat etc..

Same for tv shows, one of my favourites (The Office U.K.) was one location.

A blend of higher budget multi location films and these chamber films and tv might actually get me to watch more than tv if it’s not coming to disc. I know there have been some dabbles such as Platform and some comedy but much more would be welcome.

I hate this leaning into tacky reality tv, it’s the lowest common denominator.

After 17 years have cancelled Netflix streaming and disc will end in September. At one time had several SVOD streaming services active, now just have Prime and Dove. If Amazon splits Prime shipping and video I will drop the video.

At one time Prime had a fair amount of music and I had quite a few songs in my playlist. Have not used in several months and went to use a few days ago just to discover most songs are gone or can not be randomly selected. Get popups wanting me to sub.

I will sub to Gamefly in September for disc by mail.

Is it the end of 2024 already?

Disney has ALWAYS maintained that Disney+ will be profitable by the end of 2024.

But keep ignoring that FACT even though it doesn't fit in your agenda.
