Default Star Trek tv series help

Hey, thinking about picking up a Star Trek blu ray season but could anyone tell me which is the best series apart from the original? I’ve seen bits and pieces of the sequels but can’t remember which series it was.

Which series is best to start off with for a newbie of the sequels. Thanks.

Deep Space 9 is probably the best, but it's not available in HD or Blu-ray.

The new series Strange New Worlds just came out on Blu and it's highly recommended. TNG is also available on Blu-ray.

For the longest time I had only seen TNG all the way through.

Then I decided to binge them all. Don't remember how long it took, but it was well worth it.

If it's a blu-ray season you want, then it's TNG Season 3.

DS9 is my favourite series, but as others have said, unfortunately it's not available in HD.

Next Generation is closest to the original....mostly episodic, minor continuing plotlines and themes of exploration.

Deep Space Nine had far more continuing plotlines and overarching main story. It is also the most political and uses all of what came before to the fullest. It also has the best group of supporting characters of any Trek series IMO.
A lot of old timers think the Original and DS9 are the best but almost all of the series are very entertaining.

BUT.....DS9 is not in HD anywhere as was stated above. Which is moving from being a tragedy to being a crime.

Deep space 9 feels the most like what star trek is meant to be, despite not being centered around a flagship going on adventures.

Ds9 sounds like that’s the one. I guess it doesn’t matter if it’s in SD I’ll buy the dvd set. I just hope it looks ok on a 4K oled screen, not had a dvd played on the dvd yet

I can't even imagine watching DVD on my 4k set, don't imagine it would look good. Don't even have a DVD player anymore.

TNG is on blu ray so might just get that. Does DS9 look good in SD or should I wait for a blu ray release if they do that.

+1

TNG is viewer friendly enough that you can just start watching it wherever but it also doesn’t get into its groove until the third season. So if you start from season 1 or 2 there’s a good chance you might not make it further. IMO you can’t go wrong starting TNG anywhere from seasons 3-6.

For the non HD series everything is also on Netflix.

Great DVDs look great, just don't post-process them.

And technically if you have a Blu-ray player or UHD player, you have a DVD player!

I'd probably watch things in release date order, but be prepared that for some they can take a while to settle into their stride.

If you're not totally opposed to streaming, I'd recommend to subscribe to Paramount+ for a month. They have all the Star Trek shows, so you can check out a few episodes of each and see which you like best and perhaps buy that on disc if you prefer.

Personally I'm a fan of TOS. Of the newer shows Strange New Worlds is most similar to that, and it's great. Discovery started mediocre and became unbearably bad in the later seasons. Voyager and DS9 are not available in HD. Not a big fan of TNG, but it had a few fantastic episodes (like Best of Both Worlds). I liked some of the Enterprise seasons.
