OK. Instead of turning on Dolby Vision, set your AppleTV to output 4K HDR and leave Matching on for both. Now you’ll have HDR always on for Max and Peacock.

These two apps can not swap between SDR and HDR on AppleTV so it is either SDR everything in Max & Peacock or HDR everything in Max & Peacock. Anyway you choose, you still will not see the word HDR come up when you watch any content.

that's what i'm saying then how come when i watch hbo max this past week when i fire up wonder woman 84 it came up hdr on tv then disappear like normal the word and yet when fire up in max the word hdr doesn't automatically come up on tv

i doubt uninstall and install will help so to clarify when you guys fire up any movie or show that in description indicates in 4k the following dv dolby atmos hdr the word hdr doesn't show up on tv in new max app unlike it did hbo max is that what your saying?

my question do you think its due to them having it on native app that's why i don't see it they may fixed this week or do you think will never be fixed its a new thing so to speak have to handle it

i even see hdr come up as soon as i switch strumbox receiver to apple tv<-still don't know not doing it when i watch on max all of a sudden on 4k

I’ll explain it slower:

The Max app does not support switching between SDR and HDR unlike the HBO Max app.

That means with your AppleTV set to 4K HDR that everything you watch in the Max app will be upconverted to 4K with HDR.

You will not see the word HDR come up because HDR is already on. Why? The Max app can not switch between SDR and HDR.

A lot of content will look darker because it is being displayed in HDR. Why? The Max app can not switch between SDR and HDR.

Wonder Woman 1984 played via HBO Max on an AppleTV set to 4K SDR with Range Matching On will show the word HDR when the movie loads. Why? The HBO Max can switch between SDR and HDR.

Wonder Woman 1984 played via Max on an AppleTV set to 4K Dolby Vision or 4K HDR with Range Matching On will not show the word HDR when the movie loads. Why? The Max app can not switch between SDR and HDR.

Range Matching allows the app to switch the display between SDR and HDR/DV. The app has to support this: the Max app does not.

This is insane. Why would they do this? What were they thinking? Are they outta their minds?
