Anyone else just want to see & hear the movies in Hi-Def picture & sound? I myself could care less about all these extras. Just give me the blooper reel and deleted scenes.

Given that WB are giving the HD DVD version of Harry Potter more extras because of that platform's ability to do so, does that mean that they will give the Blu version a decent, high bit rate AVC encode because of Blu's ability to do so?

In other words, if they're prepared to spend $$$ on extras for the format that we all know will sell much less, why wouldn't they be prepared to spend extra $$$ on giving the format that'll sell more a top-notch video and audio encode? (Bribes and the like notwithstanding, of course...)

Ditto for all their other releases that are getting preferential "extras" treatment on HD DVD.

Here's a pic of the HP gift set from DVD Times -

That's the DVD gift set, but I doubt the Blu-ray set will be much different.

Wow, that looks . . . expensive . . . for a bunch of stuff I'll never use. Hopefully they'll have a box set of just the movies.

The announcement page on the site denotes it as R1, so I assume those are the U.S. specs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a mega gift set of all 7 movies in 2 versions (theaterical and extended) released after the final one is out in 2010.

Default I asked MuggleNet (a Harry Potter fan site) to endorse Blu-ray

Mugglenet, the largest and most popular Harry Potter Site, knows people at Warner Brothers. Now HP was very important to Warner during the Summer, it grossed $915 Million, making it the Ninth Highest Grossing Film ever according to Wikipedia. So I thought that if Mugglenet would tell Warner they preferred Blu-Ray, combined with Blu-Ray's popularity and sales figures for Warner Movies like 300, than it could help Warner go Blu-Ray exclusive sometime down the road. I know that's sounds crazy, but little things like this could help. I contacted Mugglenet and told them that if they would tell Warner they preferred Blu-Ray, than it could help end the format war sooner. Don't worry, I was very polite and said "Please" and "I understand if you can't" and I mentioned Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I also said that consumers would lose money on HD DVD and that the sooner it was over, the more money that would be saved. I think we should try every little thing possible we can do to help Blu-Ray. And these people could help. If you want to contact Mugglenet, you can do so here:

http://www.mugglenet.com/feedback/

and at their podcast:

http://www.mugglenet.com/mugglecast/...ge=contact.php

It says on their podcast that they may not respond to all their messages, but that they do read them all.

They also have information to contact the actors in the HP movies, if you ever wanted to do that.

I'm not a big fan of Harry Potter, but I can see this being HUGE on Blu Ray. I wonder how paramount will fare against this and the Ocean's Trilogy this holiday season. Both will be big sellers on Blu, not to mention Spider Man.

Not sure if this has been asked or not, but do any of you know if this is going to be the extended versions? A La LOTRs like, with deleted scenes edited in with the theatrical?

I never mess with any extra features either, but that isn't the point. It is time Blu-ray caught up in that regard since there is a small market for extras and the interactive things. It gives the HD DVD side something to tout and it sounds like something worthwhile to someone considering getting into the market. It has been a big negative for Blu-ray despite the fact you and I don't care about the issue for personal use.
