I guessed Monk or Psych when rumors were flying about a newer, similar series coming after the Columbo announcement.

Nice to see the guess wasn't far off.

Awesome. Did Kino do the actual 4K restoration?

Just in case there was any doubt, Kino will be releasing all 8 seasons of Monk on Blu-ray, one each month.

From their Twitter account:

Quote:
@KLStudioClassic
We're releasing all 8 seasons, 1 each months.

Don't count on it. Kino Lorber doesn't do that for their tv stuff. They also dismissed the possibility for Monk on Twitter.

Didn't they do something like that for Pink Panther though?

"Restored in 4k". So is that code for "buy this release or we will never release it in 4K"?

Tv in 4k is super niche. The only real tv on 4k releases have been a few HBO series and BBC nature docs. I can't think of any boutique label that has ever done a TV on 4k.

A 4k restoration just means this is a modern, high quality restoration that will look incredible on blu ray.

I have to say, I'm genuinely shocked and impressed by their turnaround.

About five years ago, if a movie wasn't a contemporary foreign film or a silent movie classic, I used to legitimately dread that its eventual release would be on Kino.

Horrible looking over brightened DVD-era HD masters squashed onto 25gb discs; it was basically a Mill Creek with delusions of grandeur.

Then a few years ago, it was like someone flipped a switch and Kino suddenly became one of the best home video companies currently out there (arguably THE best for catalogue TV).

I don't know how or why, but please keep up the good work y'all.

Bought these for like $5/season on Vudu a while back and haven't gotten around to the show yet.

Would love to see more shot-on-film shows getting 4K scans. Too many of them are only available from early 2000s HD masters that look dreadful now.

Glad to see this finally coming. Not that it's been a hard show to find a way to watch, but I think we all know how quickly that can change. I didn't like to think my only fallback someday would be DVD.

He’s ingenious, he’s phobic, he’s obsessive-compulsive. Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Tony Shalhoub (Barton Fink, TV’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) is sublimely hysterical in Monk, the show that critics call “fresh, exciting and utterly original” (Chicago Tribune). Adrian Monk’s offbeat antics have made him unfit for duty but he’s back as a San Francisco police consultant to help out on their most baffling cases. The brilliant but neurotic Monk is now fighting crime as well as his abnormal fears of germs, heights, crowds and virtually everything else known to man in “the best detective show to come along in decades” (New York Post). Co-starring Bitty Schram (A League of Their Own), Jason Gray-Stanford (A Beautiful Mind) and Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs) with guest stars Brooke Adams, Gail O’Grady, Adam Arkin, Tim Daly, Garry Marshall, Kevin Nealon, Willie Nelson, Amy Sedaris, Stephen McHattie and many more.

Despite them listing it as "all 13 episodes", I hope Kino keep the pilot intact and not split into two as per syndication (?)... Having the series on iTunes and the cut is ridiculous, the first episode finishes as one scene fades to black and the next episode starts with the very next scene (as if they just cut it on a scene boundary). You'd be forgiven for thinking it was one episode accidentally cut into two if it wasn't for the credits that start appearing, somewhat out of place, over the start of "part two".

Never got into the show, but great to see catalog Universal TV titles diversifying beyond Mill Creek. I wonder if this is just a one off, or if Kino Lorber might have some other series in the pipeline as well.

Default Monk is coming to Blu-Ray!

I was a little surprised nothing had been posted about this yet, but it looks like Kino Lorber is set to release the first season of the 2000's USA Network show Monk, staring Tony Shalhoub. It's coming out in August and is going for $39.99 and is up for pre-order on Amazon.

I'm really happy to see this as A.) I love the show (and hope the other 7 season are not far behind) and B.) because Universal has a very large TV show catalog. I'd love to see Kino release more Universal shows that thus far have gone unreleased.

Anyway, a link and the cover art is below. Enjoy!
