What exactly makes it a mediabook and not a digibook, aren't they basically the same thing?

I might sometime in the next 6 to 12+ months purchase The Fabelman’s on the 4K Blu-ray format (rated PG-13). By somewhat of an accident, I rented the movie on Blu-ray from Netflix toward the bottom of the Netflix que since at first, I did not know it was a Steven Spielberg movie. It appears The Fabelmans either broke even or made a small profit at the box office. A budget of $40 million dollars with box office sells of $45.5 million dollars. This movie is dedicated to the memories of Mr. Spielberg’s parents. Leah Adler physical body died in 2017 and Arnold Spielberg physical body died in 2020 at the age of 103. Now Spielberg’s parents are living with Yahweh for all eternity (a very strong possibility most likely).

While this is a fictional movie, it is loosely at times based on very similar events that occurred in Steven Spielberg’s life. In the 1950’s antisemitism was terrible in some areas of the United States and world. And mistreatment of Jewish people sometimes is still an issue in the 21st Century, but usually not as bad as it was in the mid-20th Century. Therefore, this movie shows some realistic antisemitism that some Jewish people might have experienced during their life.

The extra features on the standard Blu-ray shows Mr. Spielberg directing the movie while him and many other people wearing COVID-19 masks. Since I only rented the Blu-ray and do not own this movie on 4K Blu-ray yet. I have kept my comments brief. But I would strongly consider buying this movie on 4K Blu-ray since I felt the story was interesting about a little kid growing up in a Jewish family with a 8mm camera shooting movies and then later on moving up to a 16mm camera until finally getting the quality 35mm cameras to work with when the kid becomes an adult filmmaker.

Filmmakers like Directors, Producers, writers, actors, and other film crews many times end up working 60 to 80+ hour weeks creating new movies that sometimes take 2-3+ years to make. And many times, directors and filmmakers do not have time to watch movies and TV programs. On the extra features it was interesting to hear that Steven Spielberg had a small break (most likely during COVID safety lockdowns) to stay at home and actually found time to watch and enjoy some movies that he has never seen before.

It's a great movie, but if the budget was $40 million and it made $45 million at the box office then it actually lost maybe tens of millions of dollars. But I doubt Spielberg expected it to make a profit and he can certainly afford to lose all that money on a passion project.

Spielberg said he would have loved to direct the streaming show "Mare of East Town"...when the reporter questioned him why he didn't, Spielberg said, "They didn't ask me."

Films generate revenue long past their theatrical runs, The Fabelmans could easily be in the black from streaming and other revenue streams. West Side Story's $100 million price tag is a much harder pill to swallow for Disney/Fox. I don't think Universal is fretting too much over Fablemans $40 million budget.

Unless you're referring to another time he mentioned that, it wasn't from reporters, but from the SmartLess podcast, with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett.

This is specifically what he said:

Quote:
“I do have an appetite for long-form, and someday, I will direct a long-form series,” Spielberg said. “I mean, if someone would have brought me ‘Mare of Easttown,’ I would have done that. That was a beautifully directed story.”

This was a passion project that felt like a self indulgent, sloppy mess. It was probably IMHO one of the worst Spielberg films I have ever seen. It's down there with "The Terminal."

A movie made for an audience of one... Spielberg.

Yikes!

I really liked it, so that's an audience of two, at least.

The movie didn't break any box-office records, but it got nominated for tons of awards and if you check Letterboxd, RT and IMDb, most user reviews are positive. Of course there's an audience for it.

I thought it was great. It had a lot to say about how one learns their parents are just people, too, as well as how those with creative sensibilities compartmentalize their emotional struggles into their craft. My favorite moment of the film is
[Show spoiler]the shot at the end of the scene where Sammy's watching his parents tell his sisters about their pending divorce. He's sitting to the side of the room, distant and observing this emotional family drama that he knew was coming for a long time now. The scene ends with a shot of the room with a mirror showing Sammy shooting the scene, as the only way he's able to deal with the moments is to imagine how he would shoot the scene for a film - a scene we just actually witnessed. Fantastic storytelling in that moment, wordlessly giving insight into the main character's psyche.
