It looks like garbage compared to actual HD and not worth the cost of mastering and pressing and packaging and marketing discs. The DVDs already get what they can from those masters. Doctor Who was shot on videotape and there's no escaping that. VOY and DS9 were shot on film so there's 4K worth of info on those negatives.

They're streamed using their in-house upconverter for a 1080p compatible signal. They haven't been upconverted "professionally" like some SD->HD remasters on Blu-ray. It's not much but it does look a bit better than Netflix's SD streaming from before.

I'd imagine new SD masters from the tape masters would be superior to the DVDs. Things like the Trek shows and The X-Files didn't have the best treatment on DVD. It wouldn't be a night and day difference, but considering some of the releases we chase for slightly better encoding it could be decent enough for some.

But we would all love HD masters, even if they're hybrids.

My bad I didn't know. If they can make true HD masters they absolutely should. If they can't then do the Doctor Who route of upscaling to 1080p and doing what they can with remastering.

Some people might not like upscale releases but if it's the best they can do I am all for it.
