Hot take, but most of the FMTTM covers aren't that great, IMO. Claire's cover is aces, however.

Agreed, some of them are just downright weird.

Fun personal trivia, I had never even heard the song before I first saw Eva in the 90s. It wasn't until later I found out it was. Frank Sinatra song

Technically not Frank Sinatra's song, he just has the most famous version of it. The original version was sung by Kaye Ballard, while the song was written by Bart Howard.

I think I would agree with others that the individual versions of FMTTM in Eva are somewhat hit or miss, but it's still a nice change of pace vs. using the same version in every episode. I don't mind them being missing, although I wish the few instrumental usages in the show could have been retained at least. Either way, I don't think it's worth the added cost and effort of getting the Japanese discs to add subs to or sync the audio from.

I'd just buy the old DVDs if you just want the songs.

No they're not but they are one of the interesting and quirky things that did make Eva unique and memorable. Also, besides the Engrish singing, Eva's version is pretty upbeat and different than other versions of the song. If you go listen to other singers singing it its kind of slow and meh compared to what Eva did with it, and yeah Yoko Takahashi's version is probably the best.

I could understand if you were going to watch it on Netflix to see if you liked it first, but otherwise it's nonsensical. Eva is my second favorite series that I've bought 4 times (VHS, Platinum DVD, Japanese Blu Box, US Ultimate) and the US/UK is definitely the best quality and the closest to an "Ideal Physical Copy" we are ever getting unless they do a remastered 4K sometime (Not that I know how much that could really add to be honest) FttM doesn't bother me at all as I skip it anyways. Like I do all end credit songs.
When I buy physical media, I want the correct version. When I realised the first Avengers movie had the incorrect on-screen title and a moment of violence censored, I imported the US version as a replacement. When I found out the Blu-ray I had of Casino Royale was censored, I ordered the uncut version as a replacement. Just a few seconds cut, but I want the proper version. Kung Fu Panda 3 has the lossless audio track locked due to a cameo for UK audiences, so I'll be importing the Italian version if a 4K release doesnt fix the issue. I still haven't seen Tenet as the UK release was censored, despite regularly going down to ~£4 on 4K, I won't buy it, I'll import an uncensored version at some point, even if it's 2-3 times the price. I also intend to replace my copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey as there's a shot that doesn't fade as it's supposed to, which other releases have fixed. Also annoys me that the on-screen title of my copy of Léon is "LEON" instead of "LÉON". It just bothers me. Sure, it doesn't really matter, but it annoys me knowing that it's wrong, so I'd rather not buy it for now. I will be watching on Netflix and if I love it I'll work out which physical release suits me best and go from there.

To be 1000% clear:
Fly me to the moon isn’t available on any of the audio tracks on the Ultimate Edition? It isn’t just the Netflix dub, but ADV and Japanese too?

IMO, you shouldn't let perfect get in the way of good (or very near perfect, in this case). You never watched Eva with FMTTM, so you're not going to miss it.

There are multiple versions presented in the set, it’s not an unreasonable question to ask (when not stated specifically in the OP).

Alright, I will be passing the Ultimate Edition up, despite being a dream release otherwise. The changing ending themes for Evangelion are a part of the atmosphere of the show and are deliberately chosen for each episode. It’d be like getting rid of the mid-episode title cards. There are plenty of ways to experience Evangelion as intended, and this ain’t it. Thanks.

It is, indeed, an unreasonable question to ask. Not our fault you didn't do your research.

The guarantees of life: Life, taxes, and asking if Evangelion has Fly Me to the Moon on Blu-ray outside of Japan, what's the difference between the releases, and what's with the classic dub and sub thing only for the Collector's Edition and Ultimate Edition.

It's not GKIDS's fault that the cost of licensing the song for Evangelion outside Japan is now cost prohibitive. If they could have afforded to include it (they would have had to pay for *every* use, note why FUNimation could include the Oasis opening theme for Eden of the East only on Episode 1), they would have. Similarly, they would have included the ADV and Manga subtitles and English dubs on all the releases if not for restrictions imposed on them by Studio Khara (which hates the ADV and Manga subtitle translations and English dubs).

Many of the problems people have with this release were simply out of their hands. It was either this or nothing, and the OOP DVDs would continue to go up in price.

On DVD & Blu-ray only, not for streaming as that's a separate deal.

Feel free to disagree, but in my mind if you can’t afford to release it, don’t release it. Compromised versions of classics are borderline morally wrong. Whatever, the optimal way of viewing remains the same, I just feel bad for new fans.

Not a set for me (a person who’s collectively shelled out thousands on Eva in the past). I just can’t watch it this way. Oh well, maybe in 2030.

Oh yeah, the replacement opening theme for Eden of the East was never on the streams.

He did, and I thanked him twice, first kindly, and then less so when he decided to be a jerk. This is a bluray forum about a specific release, I’m not sure what other conversation is expected to take place here.

Anyway… I’d suggest the OP to edit “No” to “No, FMTTM will not be available on any of the audio tracks on any release” or something. Would probably help (would have stopped me from asking).
