I saw it the other day & I liked it. Idk about the ending though

I thought it was a pretty good movie.
The "creators" didnt scare me but just imagining being in a cave stuck like that got me the most.
& I agree the claustrophobia scene got me too!!!

This movie was pretty good, but it fell short in a lot of ways. The creatures bugged me. The first scene that you see one of the creatures, it moves crazy fast and runs through their group (IIRC, it slashes one of the women). At that moment, they actually looked like a scary opponent for the humans to try to fight off. EVERY scene after that, the creatures moved pretty slow and it made it almost easy for the humans to fight them... small details like that just brought the movie down from a 9 to like a 7 for me.

I did like the ending though, when it seems pretty hopeless for the main character

snooze fest!! it took 50 minutes to finally become interesting. the beginning was ALMOST completely irrelevant. at first it seemed like the movie was going to be a little bit character driven, but they threw that all out the window once they left the cabin.

the stuff in the cave was very cheap thrills in my opinion..it's dark, it's quiet OMG A GUY IS RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!! SCARY MUSIC!! i'll admit it was scary but those cheap scares get boring and cliche after the first initial scare.

over-rated as i see 99% of the blu-ray.com community owns this movie, glad i only rented this one.

I agree with you on that in a way, but I also liked it because it was pretty well done for what it was. I'm not a big horror fan, because most horror is usually crap (imo). But I appreciate a horror movie when done right, and this movie was pretty decent, although it had its flaws (as I listed in the post above back in July). I thought it was better than 95% of everything else that has come out in the past 10 years though

maybe you missed the part where she couldn't hear her friends and there was NO sound at all.

There's a reason why they had the characters be the first part of the movie, to build a connection while they were killing them off.

Same way that Aliens shows you the different characters and gets you connected, because once the killing starts you get to see how those characters change.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. I was not impressed with the "character build-up" in the first 45 minutes of the film. I found it to be quite bland and boring. The only character I felt a connection with was Sarah for obvious reasons

[Show spoiler]she lost EVERYONE in the end and eventually went crazy, can't really blame her.

I wouldn't mention this movie in the same breath as Alien or even Aliens for that matter. I think if the first 45 minutes were condensed into 15-20 minutes I would have enjoyed it more. Character development for horror films is a tricky thing because eventually all of them will be killed off. I felt this movie fell short in terms of developing the characters enough for me to care for them at all. Instead of a weak attempt at character development I would have preferred a straight-up horror/slasher.

I'll give it another try someday, my gf seemed to enjoy it so maybe I'll add it to my collection because another rental is almost equal to buying the movie anyway.

I'm not trying to be cool by disliking this movie. Maybe my expectations were too high.

My opinion...the best horror movie to come out since the millenium. Characters you actually care about, great musical score, and tension throughout. You couldn't for more in a horror movie.

It's kind of the opposite of The Thing with the all female case...which is kind of cool.

I'll agree the movie was solid once the action started, but I can't stress enough that I couldn't care less for the characters. The super tough girl (again, can't remember her name because the movie didn't make me care enough to remember)

[Show spoiler]sure she killed her friend with the....climbing tool, but it was a total accident! she just fought off some of those creepy dudes and her friend stealth ninjas her, what does she expect?? then the injured friend throws her under the bus, i thought the tough girl was painted as a bad guy and that was unfair.

i will give it another shot as it seemed quite obvious the director was paying homage to previous horror films such as The Thing and I'm sure a lot more.

I consider the end of the eighties to be the last era for great horror movies. I'm not saying there haven't been good ones, or even a few great ones since but not consistently. For me they just don't make em like they used to.
The Descent for me is everything that I love about horror movies and is in my opinion the best horror movie of the last twenty years.
